  8. Other Places: new video series about game locations

    External URL: http://www.youtube.com/user/ultrabrilliant

Other Places is a set of amazing videos of game locations with terrific production values and great use of music. These striking and hauntingly beautiful videos produced by @ultrabrilliant, a British games journalist. Obviously created on PC, most likely using various tools to hide the interface and clip through the world to find the most interesting and evocative shots. I wonder what the general techniques are for this kind of video capture? Here's a sample:

  15. Redditor helps a quadriplegic gamer play SimCity

    External URL: http://www.dailydot.com/lifestyle/reddit-simcity-quadriplegic-gamer/

Sometimes the only barrier to playing a PC game is as simple finding "the right file in the wrong place..." (from our amusing slogans thread) and moving/deleting/burning it with fire, or finding some obscure patch or community fix. For gamers who are disabled, these problems can feel insurmountable, which is why I always like seeing a story where one gamer uses their PC game fixing skills to help others:

Redditor joey6957 had a problem playing SimCity:

When you put a road on the map you use the mouse clicker & hold it while determining where to put the road & at the same time you press the N key or M key to lower or raise the the road. When i lay a road down i use my Quadjoy which the device only allows you to do '1 thing at a time.' In other words I cant press the N key or M key on the on screen keyboard while laying a road.

    External URL: http://www.hirezstudios.com/hi-rez/latest-news/view/hi-rez-studios-blog/2013/08/05/hi-rez-communication-focus

Hi-Rez have decided to shut down their server permanently, stating:

More and more players use social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, and Reddit to connect and discuss their entertainment of choice. Consequently, fewer players visit official forums long enough to even create an account. In keeping with this observed tendency, Hi-Rez has shifted focus to those social media platforms increasingly over the course of the year.

  24. Bypass Humble Store regional price increase using PCGamingWiki's widget list

Humble Store announced that regional pricing has now been introduced for Euro and British territories. Whilst this isn't a shock in itself (and something that Green Man Gaming implemented recently) it is surprising to see that prices mostly match Steam's regional pricing, which means that European and British users will be charged anything up to 30% more than what they used to pay under the US dollar pricing.
