This post from @Wario64 shows new Final Fantasy VII Remake PS4 box cover art, which indicates PS4 exclusivity until 3/3/21. Whilst PC version has not been announced, we expect a PC release as Square Enix has been prioritising the PC platform for all their Final Fantasy releases in recent years. This new box art information is not a confirmation of a release date, but it gives us an indication of the very earliest possible release date for the PC version of the game which would come after March 3rd, 2021.

Here is the tweet with the new box art:

This is Square Enix we're talking about here, let's not delude ourselves.  FF7R will get an Xbox version first, then a switch version the next year, and finally PC a few years down the line, while they advertise the PC version of this game supporting bare minimum features such as widescreen, 4K, and uncapped framerate, while still having pillarboxed in-engine cutscenes for monitors wider than 16:9.  That's if we're lucky and 21:9 isn't just anamorphic, like with so many Japanese PC ports.

With Square Enix PC releases we can probably expect treatment of mainline Final Fantasy games to go as similar at the last release - Final Fantasy XV. The FFXV PC port which was released about 1.5 years after the initial console release. FFXV port wasn't that bad - you could uncap the framerate and 21:9 support was there too. It also supported dynamic resolution scaling.

That worked real well for XV.  One and a half years of criticism and dying hype surrounding the game, which culminated into the game barely breaking a million copies, at 35 dollars maximum no less.  Yeah, Square sure is prioritizing PC.

Obviously having a restrictive monetisation policy is an enormous mistake, given the size and importance of the video streaming audience. This kind of policy discourages professional streamers from tackling the game, for example, TotalBiscuit who stated on Twitter that he will not be covering Final Fantasy XIV.

What do you guys think? Is this totally mad?

And of course with the launch, we're looking for help to update the Final Fantasy XIV PCGamingWiki page, so please update away if you have a copy of the game.

After a bumpy pre-launch, Final Fantasy XIV is now available. However, a curious new 'Materials Usage Policy' has been unearthed which comes into effect today, and makes statements such as:
