Final Fantasy VII (2012) - I decided to play this game after seeing all of the hype about the PlayStation release and hearing some of the awesome music from it. When I bought it, I quickly changed the music files from the MIDI's to the original soundtrack, because I heard that the MIDI's weren't as good. It's been an enjoyable RPG so far and has major differences from the previous games in the series that I really liked.

FFVII's music has now been patched, thankfully :).

A whole bunch of stuff to be honest. With all the Humble Bundle and Steam deals i threw money at it recent weeks it's hard to focus on just one. Kid in a candy store kind of thing.
Sticking to the older titles though due to world travelling and just having a "13 inch AMD E-series netbook which is just powerful enough to handle stuff from before say 2004 and the simpler titles from now (Fez, FTL, Greed Corp. etc.).

At the moment i'm re-enjoying GTA: Vice City, which is a horrible port by the way but it's just so damn good that it is forgivable (hard to mod on Steam though), and have been playing Dungeon Siege, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Monkey Island 2: SE on and off.
Not having a monster PC at my disposal isn't all that bad you know, gives me a chance to play some missed classics.

Just beat Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. That was fun, but way too short. Not sure what single player game I'll take on next. Might take on Far Cry 2, then 3.

Multiplayer wise I've been playing the Battlefield 4 beta. Once I got it to run well, It's been a blast. Can't wait for the full release.

Max Payne 3 - been really enjoying this so far, runs beautifully on my low spec laptop (running on a AMD 6630M). Done a ton of work cleaning up that mess of an article.

Brought me back to a lot of nostalgia from the original Max Payne game which I loved and modded using the Kung Fu mod which was totally crazy:

Per usual, I've been playing some Team Fortress 2 at LANs with my friends. plr_hightower is still the best map :P

Other than that, I've been getting into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Sadly it still has yet to have been ported to Linux so I have to boot into Windows to play. I've mostly been playing gun game and I still completely suck, but I'm having fun.

I've also been playing Fez, which is an amazing indie game. I have yet to have had a single problem with the game (other than how hard it is, I guess). It was an exceptional port and the game's delays are clearly shown in how nearly perfect every detail is. The game is genius.

I quite liked Fez, even though there are a lot of people more or less hating on it, even some of the bigger names in the field. (Might have something to do with the Fish guy who's behind it.) Words like unoriginal and unimaginative come to pass. Sure most of it has been done before and a lot of little things and sounds even reminded me of classic games like Zelda and platformers like Mario but that didn't bother me at all. I'd rather see something copied right than something made up and implemented badly. It seems more likely that those older titles just inspired mr. Fish. And i really did like how everything in Fez worked out. It all feels very well done and controls are good.

I did however feel a little lost at sea when it came to all the secrets. That part of the game , with the whole hidden language thing , even though ingeniously thought out, isn't explained to the player very well and can looked over quite easily. If it wasn't for me stumbling over it somewhere in the Steam community i would never have known.

Isn't that why it's called a secret though?

Well sure, but if you want people to fully enjoy your game then you should at least give the player some subtle but clear hints that will get you going. I didn't get that at all.

Yes i noticed posters, paintings and writings spread out through the Fez's world but nowhere did it suggest that it actually meant something more than just that.

Anyhow, this is how i experienced it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Warframe: Addicting sci-fi shooter about space ninjas in a quest to find the mysteries of their past and to fight their enemy factions, while grinding for materials and items needed to improve their arsenals.

Batman: Arkham Asylum + Batman: Arkham City: Batman epi-fied, with lots of fun investigating and hourly thug beating. What else can I say? It's bloody Batman.
