In the past few months, many Sony intellectual properties have received releases on the PC platform. Former PlayStation exclusives Journey, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls, IPs explicitly owned by Sony, have all been released on PC in the past year. Detroit: Become Human is also set to receive a PC release later this year. Furthermore, there is also substantiated speculation regarding Death Stranding launching on PC after its initial PlayStation launch.

Even before these releases, Sony released titles from their IPs intermittently on Steam over the years, specifically Helldivers, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and Guns Up!. Sony also launched their PlayStation Now streaming service on PC back in 2016, allowing many of their titles to be played (albeit through streaming) on the PC platform.

Today, in an interview with Bloomberg, Sony Interactive Entertainment's chairman Shawn Layden, commented on the future of the PlayStation brand. In this interview, Layden stated:

Quote

“We must support the PlayStation platform -- that is nonnegotiable. That said, you will see in the future some titles coming out of my collection of studios which may need to lean into a wider installed base.”

Seeing Sony's stance towards PC relaxing to such a degree is surprising, though not necessarily unexpected. What Sony titles are you hoping come to PC in the future?

Spider-Man never left Marvel as a whole. Sony only has movie rights for Spider-Man. Though Sony and Disney not coming to an agreement may cause Marvel to not license another Spider-Man game by Insomniac, which just got bought by Sony. Part of me would be happy about that. Maybe we get a good cross platform Spider-Man game. But Insomniac did such a great job with Spider-Man PS4 so I would like to see a sequel by them.

All this is nonsense. Death Stranding was never a exclusive in the first place, Sony only used it for marketing its platform. All games listed are third-party games only published by Sony. This is like Alan Wake, that other Remedy game, Ori and indie titles published by Microsoft that appeared on PC/Steam.  Only after Gears 4 and Forza, and now MCC and Halo 6 can you see MS is really into it. Until Sony releases their first party titles like Uncharted, Shadow Of Colossus or Horizon  Zero Dawn on PC (directly and not via streaming) all this is not worth discussing.

Microsoft is only really into it because they remembered they own Windows, the OS that most PC games run on.  Kind of a bird brained move of them to abandon Windows as soon as they released the Xbox, considering it wasn't even their competitor.

It is fascinating to see some of the dumb mistakes Microsoft made over the years. I mean they had Windows, they had DirectX, they had a ton of PC game studios they already worked with and what do they do... they make a custom computer that uses all their PC tech, but incompatible and call it a console. Then they proceed to shut down their PC developers like Ensemble Studios, abandon or ignore their successful IPs like Dungeon Siege or Flight Simulator, etc... And what are they doing now ? They are literally buying and building studios that are exact replicas of studios they already had back then. And now they even added mouse and keyboard support for the Xbox. In 15 years they made a full circle and are back at the start.

Let's not forget the entirety of 6th gen which was awkward as hell.  Multiplats released on everything, even the N-Gage, but not PC?  PC gets a game that has the same name as the console game, but it's an entirely different game?  I thought the 2000s were the home computer boom, why was PC gaming so gimped then?  Was the PS2 really that mighty?
