Steam not running trading card event for Summer Sale, planning surprise announcement

Steam are planning something new with the Summer Sale 2019, here's the announcement:

The Steam Summer sale is just around the corner! We're going to try something different with the event this year. While there will still be an event and rewards, we won't be featuring special trading cards, or any mysterious cards in the lead-up to the sale. Keep your eye out for more details when the sale launches, it should be a fun event.

Steam trading cards have been a staple of the Steam Sale since first introduced in 2013.

Valve have always tweaked how sales work and how to keep people engaged over long periods of time. For example Valve introduced a daily/flash sales only to disable them in 2015 - some have speculated that this changed consumer behaviour and actually increased total revenue over the entire sale period.

The Steam Summer Sale is rumoured to begin 18:00 British Summer Time on June 25th, 2019 (13:00 ET, 10:00 PT), and will most likely end July 9th, 2019.

After the implementation of the refund system due to an lawsuit, one of the key reasons for visiting the Steam sale on a regular basis went away, namely the daily or time-limited special, went away.

Yes I forgot that Steam refunds kind of went hand in hand with Steal flash sales disappearing. Net positive though!
