Koroush announced recently that TweakGuides, one of the best sources of PC game tweaks, is sadly going to be shutting down.

Koroush has graciously allowed third parties to mirror the TweakGuides website under the Creative Commons Attribution International (CC BY 4.0) license. PCGamingWiki articles contain multiple references to TweakGuides, and we have decided to mirror and preserve the content so that our links are not broken when the main site goes offline.

You can find the mirror at tweakguides.pcgamingwiki.com and all the Wiki's internal links have been updated to the new address.

Will it be possible to update the guides to remove the nonsense and harmful settings in some games like the Bethesda Fallout games and Elder Scrolls games?

We aren't going to make those articles 'wiki-editable', it's there as an archive.

However I am considering other methods of incorporating similar tweaking information and I'd be happy to take feedback. I think most tweaks are too verbose and niche for the main article. However we could easily have a subpage e.g. Fallout 4/Tweaks which lists every single variable and can be contributed by all users.

The Fallout creation kit wikis have full lists of variables, problem is most of them are not safe to tweak outside of graphics ones, or are placebo (there but not referenced in the code ever). The reverse engineers and expert modders have been trying for years to fix the disinformation presented in these articles, it's very hard to to fix it once it spreads. I would like to see this curbed if possible.

I've attached a zip of the Bethesda files if you wanted to adjust them. If the edits look fine then I will overwrite the archive. The Skyrim guide is hosted on the GeForce website, so we can't change that.

Finished the edits, thank you! Hopefully I didn't break anything, but I won't guarantee it since I'm old and make dumb mistakes sometimes.

To be clear I removed the uGrids, Cell Buffer, most of the multithreading and iPreloadSizeLimit tweaks.

reasons:

uGrids, the game is hardcoded all over to expect this setting to be the default 5, altering it causes a myriad of issues and can/will corrupt saves.

Cell Buffers , again the engine expects hard coded values, and there is absolutely no evidence that they relate to uGrids at all, absolute nonsense.

Multithreading tweaks, the variables are never referenced in the engine therefore placebo. I did leave the Multithreaded AI one is valid, same with iNumHWThreads, these values are used but have little effect outside stability on more recent OS's than XP.

iPreloadSizeLimit = This tweak is comical, it sets the bink video playback buffer size. Increasing it actually reduces the amount of ram the game can use for other assets.
