Andytizer 269 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Planning my next LAN gathering with a mix of gamers and non-gamers and looking for game suggestions. We have a mix of Macs and Windows computers. Last time we met up, Nidhogg was a hit as it was very accessible playing it on a PC attached to a TV with 4 wireless Microsoft controllers. We also played Monaco which was fantastic for the 4 of us who were more experienced gamers. Thinking of picking up other accessible game titles for example, Towerfall, Gangbeasts, etc. would appreciate some suggestions! Guest Share Posted January 19, 2015 It's not a couch game but SWAT 4? Reply (Quote)
Mirh 103 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I know unreal tournament 3 can work with 4 players. And I guess that's a bit more competitive than the the other games. It would also be a nice opportunity to test whatever that 60KB ini I included in the page does make sense in at least one case, or it's just redundant or surpassed in every possible way by FoxMod Reply (Quote)
Garrett 214 Share Posted January 21, 2015 In the case of LAN games remember that there there are certain technical limitations which might ruin your fun if you haven't planned for them. This might be requiring real internet access for hosting LAN sessions or checking the CD key (so you can't just install the same copy for every player); '90s-era games are actually better in this regard since almost all had a genuine LAN mode and many supported a "spawn" install that can join hosted sessions. Multiplayer is not always cross-platform even if the game states the same patch version. The wiki pages note some of these issues when known. Andytizer 269 Author Share Posted January 21, 2015 SWAT4 is a great idea, although it's not available on digital distribution anymore unfortunately. I forgot to mention we played a ton of Left 4 Dead 2, so SWAT 4 might've been quite good too. Maybe a more modern substitute would be Payday1/2? UT 3 is a bit too competitive I think for newbs. Will try: Super Motherload Tiny Brains SpeedRunners Reply (Quote)
Guest Share Posted January 21, 2015 I swear I thought it was on GOG. Nevermind, that was SWAT 3. http://www.gog.com/game/swat_3_tactical_game_of_the_year_edition You could also try Battlefield 2 with some mods which enable 64 AIs on large maps, you could do some Co-Op against it. Nicereddy 109 Share Posted January 21, 2015 At LAN parties I have with my friends we tend to play a lot of Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Garry's Mod (Trouble in Terrorist Town specifically). I'd definitely recommend TF2, it's a lot of fun if you host your own LAN server. Usually we end up playing plr_hightower, some of the best moments I've had in any game have come from there.
