EdenCrow 0 Share Posted February 16, 2013 Currently, in a lot of articles there is a link to the Widescreen Gaming Forum under the notes in the 'Video Settings' section (such as on this Battlefield 3 article). Personally I think it doesn't really look in place being within this section and should perhaps have a section of its own, as explained more in depth (including pros and cons) on my Sandbox page. Any feedback on this idea would be welcome :)
Andytizer 269 Share Posted February 16, 2013 Thanks I'll take a look at this a bit later this evening and feed in my thoughts. Just to let you know I was thinking of implementing this, discussed in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=

Andytizer 269 Share Posted February 17, 2013 Thanks for the work on this. It's very much appreciated, and it's timely as Skip (WSGF admin) and I have discussed link sharing, and I've been stalling trying to think of a good way to integrate this into the sample article. My opinion is that we should integrate all information from WSGF and any other sources for widescreen/multi-monitor fixes. The advantage being that PCGamingWiki is a resource that anyone can edit, and its pages can be kept up to date easily. In terms of format however, I think we should keep it very simple so that we avoid clogging up pages with information that is irrelevant to most users. Ideally every game should run at native widescreen resolution without cutoff or letterboxing. Rather than using a table checklist, we can just write up where the game is deficient and whether there are any available fixes. I also propose a mini-WSGF award icon with the 'Native' column, with a link to the relevant page. This would make the table easier to scan through. The trouble will be making tiny icons which fit the table and also convey the info, maybe we need to make new ones.
Andytizer 269 Share Posted February 22, 2013 Any thoughts on this? Too ugly? Should the icons replace the tick/cross template?
Nicereddy 109 Share Posted February 22, 2013 I don't think a lot of people would recognize it, the badges should be explained in the Notes section next to it.
EdenCrow 0 Author Share Posted February 23, 2013 Any thoughts on this? Too ugly? I agree with Nicereddy that the icons are too small to be recognisable, but they should definitely be in the 'Native' column. Perhaps someone could redesign them to make them clearer? Should the icons replace the tick/cross template? This could perhaps be a good idea if the redesigned icons look good enough so that the column look neater. Garrett 214 Share Posted February 25, 2013 What if the medals had their own column? This would make it clear that these things are medals and avoid having potentially confusing combinations in the same column, e.g. a Yes for native and an Unknown for WSGF for the same feature (unless the plan is for WSGF ratings to only be shown when a rating exists). Pendragon 6 Share Posted February 27, 2013 I thought replacing the checkmarks with the WSGF badges would be the best, but I like Garrett's idea better. Looks much neater.

I agree, though perhaps the icon itself could be changed slightly to suit being the small size that it will be?
Andytizer 269 Share Posted February 27, 2013 If anyone is good at Photoshop, we'd be very grateful if they could reformat to an appropriate size. I've attached the original files which Skip sent to me - these are the 'medals' at a 500x500px - might give some inspiration. LDK 9 Share Posted February 27, 2013 Smaller medals in two resolutions: 100x100 as digital distribution stores icons and 25x25 as tics icons in settings table.
Andytizer 269 Share Posted March 8, 2013 I would like to go with Garret's idea unless anyone has major reservations. This would involve editing this template: http://pcgamingwiki.com/index.php?title ... ction=edit We would have to make sure the two columns are added in gracefully and are backwards compatible with the old template too. This is quite a complex task, it would be worth making a sandbox copy of the Template and playing with it. If worst comes to worst and no one can do it, I will call in our MediaWiki ringer Masked Turk who is a god at parser functions and CSS. Here's an example of new entries: widescreen_wsgf_award = A/B/limited/unsupported widescreen_wsgf_link = http://www.wsgf.org/dr/dmc-devil-may-cry/en multimonitor_wsgf_award = A/B/limited/unsupported multimonitor_wsgf_link = http://www.wsgf.org/dr/dmc-devil-may-cry/en
Garrett 214 Share Posted March 9, 2013 I have integrated WSGF support into Video Settings. The ratings column is only shown when widescreen_wsgf_award= has a value, so existing pages are unaffected. The ratings display the same hover tooltips as on WSGF and link to the WSGF page when a link is provided (otherwise they are not linked). Unfortunately WSGF's Limited, Unsupported and Incomplete badges are unreadable at this size. They should ideally be replaced with something simpler. They are WSGF_WS_Limited.png, WSGF_WS_Unsupported.png, WSGF_WS_Incomplete.png, WSGF_MM_Limited.png, WSGF_MM_Unsupported.png, WSGF_MM_Incomplete.png. I'm no graphic designer so I'll leave that task for someone else. :)
Andytizer 269 Share Posted March 10, 2013 Hey Garrett this looks really amazing thanks so much for the work you've done on it :). It looks fantastic. I am hoping that someone can do a couple of cosmetic tweaks to the Video Settings template please. I've also attached an image with diagrams to what I think should be changed. 1) Native column spacing not quite centred - there is a spacer there.. can it be removed? 2) icon sizes need to be slightly smaller to match other icons (later we can redesign them as they aren't clear at that size) 3) total column width doesn't quite look right, should be 100px
