Suicide machine 53 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Actually, I was thinking about tickling this subject a few months back, but for some reason I didn't - I guess, I was just new and I didn't feel confident enough. Anyway, I'd like to stop PCGW contributors from linking files from Filefront. I guess, many people may not be aware, but for me - filefront is always an issue. Every time, I want to download a file that is on Filefront, I get an error that file doesn't exist. For a while, I've been thinking - this actually may be a case... until I started doing some research. Turns out, the problems isn't file not being on a server, any more, but a simple denial of access to files in certain regions - this includes Poland and Italy for example. But this problem has been present for over a year now and Filefront didn't seem to take any steps to fix the problem (which is a shame, since a lot of people used to put maps and their fixes in there). What is especially frustrating is that they didn't even bother to put some kind of note that it's because region - all you get is "file doesn't exist" error message. And you're left in the dark with a wrong error message. So, I'd strongly recommend and ask all contributors to avoid linking files from filefront, so that anyone can easily download a fix/mod/hack or whatever it's necessary. Garrett 214 Share Posted November 4, 2013 I've been gradually migrating links away from FileFront/GameFront because of this problem. All such links should eventually be eliminated; the same goes for any other region-locked download services (I don't know of any others off-hand). I think we should cross-host these as well, just in case the Nexus site were ever to close or the user were to delete the file. We would leave links for both the Nexus site as well as our own rehost. The Nexus network isn't closing any time soon, but it does have some server issues which make the Nexus sites pretty slow, so that's a good idea, but I am spoiled way too much with Nexus Mod Manager.
