AMD’s latest line-up of Ryzen CPUs, known as Zen 2, has launched, spearheaded with two major SKUs: the Ryzen 7 3700X retailing for $329 USD, and the Ryzen 9 3900X retailing for $499 USD. Numerous outlets have run the CPUs through the wringer, and produced numerous benchmarks, including AnandTech, Tom’s Guide, Extreme Tech, and Gamer’s Nexus.

The eight-core Ryzen 7 3700X’s closest Intel rival (in regard to price point) is the i7-9700K (retailing for around $375 USD).

The twelve-core Ryzen 9 3900X is directly competing with the eight-core i9-9900k, with both retailing for around $499 USD.

Many of the benchmarks include comparisons of all four CPUs. In most gaming benchmarks, the i7-9700k was typically outperforming both the Ryzen 7 3700X as well as the Ryzen 9 3900X by a very slim margin.
AnandTech's benchmarks display how small of a difference existed in CPU performance between the Intel and Ryzen CPUs with regards to gaming.

In non-gaming benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 3900X was typically outperforming the other three CPUs when multi-threading was included. In single-threaded tests, the 9700K scored slightly better than the 3900X, with the 9900K slightly outperforming the rest.

Overall, while the latest Ryzen CPUs may not be completely outperforming their Intel counterparts in gaming, they still possess merits and increases in functionality currently unavailable for Intel users.

Will you be upgrading to a Zen 2 processor?
