Mars icecream 57 Share Posted June 2, 2016 I don't know if this has been discussed before. Many games have "in-house" file types, can be almost anything under the sun: .xom, .sve, .pro, .cde, .fqh The website doesn't allow uploading such files and I have to compress them for no real reason. Can the file type restrictions be disabled completely? I tried uploading `SaveGame.xom` today.
Mirh 103 Share Posted June 3, 2016 As I said in the relative thread, I don't know why you upload savefiles here, instead than GameFAQs. Besides, while I'm at it, what's the point in Durazno here when you can just link dev's favorite (and ideally always more updated) place? Marioysikax 89 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Files section does allow zipped files, which means you can upload any file you want that way. Zipping also makes it harder to use corrupted files as you can't unzip them if they are corrupted (because I have had some weird download issues few times from there, including files downloading by clicking section in the main page). Allowing all filetypes would be bad move and whitelisting all the differend fileformats games might use would be ton of work to maintain. Mars icecream 57 Author Share Posted June 12, 2016 Besides, while I'm at it, what's the point in Durazno here when you can just link dev's favorite (and ideally always more updated) place? Durazno downloads are hosted on Google Drive instead of the program's Github page, I find that odd. Durazno hasn't been updated since 2013 and works fine on Windows 10. Mars icecream 57 Author Share Posted June 13, 2016 As I said in the relative thread, I don't know why you upload savefiles here, instead than GameFAQs. I don't understand why save files shouldn't be added to a website called "PC Gaming Wiki". I also fear that GameFAQs' parent company CBS Interactive will close down both GameFAQs and GameSpot in the near future, GS recently expanded to movies and errors in articles and in video content have skyrocketed. Blackbird 54 Share Posted June 13, 2016 Because PCGW is aimed at fixing bugs or adding support for stuff. Save games have nothing to do with either.
Mirh 103 Share Posted June 14, 2016 Durazno downloads are hosted on Google Drive instead of the program's Github page, I find that odd. Durazno hasn't been updated since 2013 and works fine on Windows 10. Odd, and.. then? What's the matter? The download link is still there on the page. I guess he just want to keep track of the users number. Said this, why are you referring to sources tarballs? Latest commits aren't even 3 months old now. And so are the binaries on gdrive. I don't understand why save files shouldn't be added to a website called "PC Gaming Wiki". Because the subtitle is "an encyclopedia of PC game fixes". And even though I might reply that indeed that's just an arbitrary pedantry... I don't see any particularity in computer savegames, compared to say xbox or ps ones. Thus the need for specific websites for that. Again though, if you are worried about gamefaq, ask strategywiki guys. They seem exactly the kind of guys that would care of that. Prod 5 Share Posted June 14, 2016 Again though, if you are worried about gamefaq, ask strategywiki guys. They seem exactly the kind of guys that would care of that. I don't think anyone's tried uploading a save game file, and I'm not sure how we could present them to users, but it definitely sounds like something cool to provide. Mars icecream 57 Author Share Posted January 17, 2017 Is .exe universally blocked?
Blackbird 54 Share Posted January 17, 2017 Most likely to prevent PCGW to be flagged as malicious. Mars icecream
