ThatOneReaper 51 Share Posted April 14, 2016 So GameFront has recently announced that they are shutting down April 30, 2016. While games today don't require such dedicated filesharing services (normally opting for automated patching or uploading through a more general purpose service), much older games will be affected by the loss of this service. GameFront is almost on par with FilePlanet in terms of both files and reputation, and losing access to such a resource will make it significantly harder to find good patches for pre-Steam games. There is also the issue of permanently losing patches and mods that were uploaded exclusively to GameFront. Although we have practically nothing significant linking to GameFront at this time, it is recommended that any patches that can be found on the service for games we already cover should be mirrored on the wiki. Suicide machine 53 Share Posted April 14, 2016 http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/topic/654-avoiding-filefront/ - accidental, but I tackled Gamefront / Filefront problems earlier. Now we are pretty much left with no files in articles that need to be mirrored.
Garrett 214 Share Posted April 15, 2016 Some pages also link to the older filefront.com domain. Files from both domains have been mostly avoided already due to the region-locking issue, so it's just a few pages linking to mod hubs and reviews and so forth. Garrett 214 Share Posted April 22, 2016 GameFront files have been archived in bulk by Archive Team, so most files should be preserved. These files are also available when browsing the archived pages through the Wayback Machine. Mirh and Nicereddy
Garrett 214 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Game Front mods are in the process of being hosted on Nexus Mods (see the news post for details). Someone has also put up a copy of the original site at gamefront.online. Mirh
