What's the difference between volume and sound?

In audio settings of sample article, there are 2 lines for that:

|separate volume          = unknown

|separate volume notes    =

|surround sound           = unknown

|surround sound notes     =

Can someone explain the difference for me, non-native english speaker?

 

Edit: oops nvm I read "surround" wrong xD
