novigamer1029 0 Share Posted September 4, 2023 I was researching for rigs of rods and looking through an old blogpost for the game and found this blog ( http://rigsofrods.blogspot.com/2007/12/ ) about a copy of the game on the DVDs. So I was wondering if that would count as retail. Reply (Quote)
Aemony 160 Share Posted September 4, 2023 It's a bit of a weird one but... hmm... I would probably say... no... I think, since the retail release doesn't seem to be official. It's basically just a freeware game redistributed by a third-party on their own. Reply (Quote)
Plok 0 Share Posted September 4, 2023 On MobyGames, we treat them as retail. It received a license from the rightsholder, and was distributed on a physical disc. Reply (Quote)
Aemony 160 Share Posted September 4, 2023 In this case an official license doesn't seem to be involved as per the blog post on the website, where the developer expresses surprise of its inclusion. Since it's freeware, the unofficial redistribution was probably within the license of the game, "per se", though that does not make it an official retail copy. Is it really the only time an otherwise paid game has been released in a retail form in a full version...? Most of those games bundled with kids meal used to just be demos or the like over here in Sweden at least. Reply (Quote)
Theclaw135 4 Share Posted October 6, 2023 For a rarity like this, a footnote would be more ideal than a separate category. A few titles may not have been available anywhere else. There are some curiosities like a Taco Bell version of Frogger. Reply (Quote)
