Newly created account can't login to PCGW

Hi just created an account and verified my email but I can't login to the PCGW - I keep getting the error
 

Auto-creation of a local account failed: You have not specified a valid username.

How can I fix this?

Based on your previous display name (which I just changed to "nacho" to match your username here on the forums), I assume you had mistakenly typed in your mail address as your username initially and then changed it?

We've had similar issues with users using @ in their username which isn't an allowed character in the wiki and so account creation on that end fails. Our sysadmin should be able to clear the traces from your initial username from the wiki which should solve the issue.

On the keycloak register page, google chrome auto fills the username field with my email (I just confirmed this). I'm guessing it thinks it's a 'confirm email address' field. So that's why my user was set to my email address.

Thanks for the confirmation that it was the case. We have a few changes planned to improve the registration flow that will, among other things, prevent this exact issue from occurring.

For anyone arriving here from Google, if you experience this issue you can solve it by signing in to the account management site where you will have the option to change your username: https://sso.pcgamingwiki.com/auth/realms/PCGamingWiki/account/

 

I have updated the PCGW Account FAQ page with the below section. Sorry for not realizing we didn't even mention the solution there.

 

I cannot sign in on the wiki due to an invalid username?!

This occurs due to a bug in our backend that allows special characters in the SSO username (for example the @ character) which the wiki itself does not support. Please sign in to the account management site where you will have the option to change your username. After the username has been stripped of any special characters you will be able to sign in to the wiki successfully.
