Grand Theft Auto IV Complete Edition is a fantastic game, but it isn't without it's many bugs and issues. Since the game was first released in 2008, it has aged lots. Since I am a beginner with modding, I wanted to seek guidance, as well as share knowledge along the way. Hopefully this forum and the forum category is suitable as I did not get any response on another online forum. If you are to try any modding, I strongly suggest that you backup your game's folder directory in case something goes wrong.

The latest game version on Steam is 1.2.0.59. If you wish to play a mostly vanilla experience, I strongly suggest you play using this latest version, with some essential MODs. I watched - 'Fixing GTA IV with 4 Mods' by YouTuber TGJM - where he suggested using the following MODs:

If you want to explore the many different MODs however, it is suggested that you use the GTA IV Downgrader to downgrade your game to say 1.0.8.0 or even 1.0.7.0. So many MODs do not work with the latest version of the game as they were created for older versions, such as 'Farnsworth's Business Mod' (use 1.0.8.0 or 1.0.7.0).

I wanted help at creating a brand new modlist. I've used OpenIV, but I am not so great with that utility. Thanks to FusionFix, I have benefited at easily placing certain MOD files into an 'update' folder in the game's directory. I am trying to create a neat collection of both essential and optional MODs to help bring brand new life to this great game.

What does the community suggest?

I suggest give a try to this guide, which lists more fixes and also pretty rad mods.

Thanks for your reply! That has been quite helpful. There was some MODs where I couldn't find the correct MOD version however.

Ideally, I would love to create a MOD list for 1.0.8.0 for fun MODs such as: 'Farnsworth's Business Mod', the 'Taxi Mod', the 'Car Shop Mod', etc. I'm trying to make the game as beautiful looking as possible too.

The benefit of latest version 1.2.0.59 is having the 'Update' folder with the FusionFix Loader where you can literally drag and drop MOD files into this folder for them to work automatically - without modifying the game's files. That seems the neatest way to install MODs. Using OpenIV seems messy and I am never sure if it has worked correctly.

I don't know, if you read the guide correctly, but there's a way to install newest Fusion Fix on the 1.0.7.0/1.0.8.0. Also, IV Tweaker by Zolika is a superior implementation of this solution, since it increases limits and allows to load files, that are normally in the .IMG archives as a loose files.

So originally I tried a clean copy of game, using downgrader without installing any MODs, then manually placing newest Fusion Fix into game's directory but the game wouldn't run. In fact whilst writing this, I think it's because I didn't rename a specific file to xlive.dll.

Since I had no luck, I used the Downgrader, downgraded GTA, installed the MODs present on the downgrader, then organized the files into 'update' and 'plugins'.

In fact, I may retry at some point, using your method too. IV Tweaker sounds promising.
