About This File
------------------------------------------
·"Zork Nemesis" (Win95 version) Patch-Fix:
------------------------------------------
-This Patch-Fix is for the original 3-CD version and GOG version of the game (It may work with the DVD / Other version if the folder structure is the same as GOG and what I described below for 3-CD version).
-The patch adds subtitles (English only) to all videos and dialogues, you can enable or disable them in-game menu (Does not work with DOS versions).
-Fixed some video of a strange door in the Asylum that causes visual garbage, now the door opens without it (See *Note).
-Improves Windows 10/11 compatibility with DDraw-wrapper (cnc-ddraw for video) and uses a Win95 executable to run (this Patch fix is not for the DOS version, and does not work with DOS). This updates the Win95 version of the game to version 1.1, which is the latest official version.
*Note: with my Patch-Fix you can also play the game using ScummVM, (ScummVM corrects the video garbage I mentioned, with or without my fix, but without my Patch you don't have subtitles). I prefer to play this game without ScummVM (if possible) because (for now) you cannot force all the animations while panning the screen, misses some environmental 3D sounds, and you need to change options in ScummVM and I like a "direct way to play".
--------------------------------------------------------
-- Before installing this Patch-Fix you MUST do this: --
--------------------------------------------------------
---
-If you have the 3-CD version (doing this will set the file structure to match the GOG version)
---
· Create a folder like 'C:\Zork Nemesis Game' (you can change this folder and HD letter)
· Create inside 'C:\Zork Nemesis Game' 3 folders called:
DATA1
DATA2
DATA3
· Copy ZASSETS from CD1 into DATA1, from CD2 into DATA2 and then from CD3 into DATA3.
· (Optional) You can save disk space eliminating the *.SRC and *.ZFS files inside ZASSETS (don't touch the folders ONLY the files inside ZASSETS), the game don't use the files because they are inside ZNEMSCR and ZNEMMX folders.
· (Optional) Also you need to copy the next folders from CD1 into 'C:\Zork Nemesis Game', these folders are inside NEMESIS folder in CD1, copy them to the 'C:\Zork Nemesis Game':
ZNEMSCR
ZNEMMX
+For compatibility with versions I provide those files into the Patch-Fix. Because if you copy ZNEMMX you need to rename all the files inside to *.RAW to make the game use them.
· Once all 3-CD data is installed as said above you can install the Patch-Fix files.
---
-If you have the GOG version:
---
· You only need to "overwrite" (if you want, optional) some files and install the rest.
· The patch provided some missing files from ZNEMSCR and has the same files for ZNEMMX. (For that reason, overwriting files is optional if using GOG version)
---
To play the game:
Now the game will be launched with the file "znemesis.exe".
And you will play "Zork Nemesis" (Win95 version).
---
-The patch adds "winhlp32.exe" that allows the capacity to read the old help files of the game:
"znemhelp.hlp" (because Windows 10/11 are unable to read them).
---
· Extra: if you press "Control" + "Q" the exit menu appears even in videos.
---
-Credits:
· Activision for the update of the game (only for the Win95 version) with subtitles (English only), version 1.1 of Zork Nemesis.
· cnc-ddraw: I modified the "ddraw.ini" to play "Zork Nemesis" at 25 FPS, like when it was launched in 1996 with Windows 95.
