On a Steam Community post from yesterday on all affected Command & Conquer games, EA made the announcement that they were releasing the source code under the open source GPL3 license for the following Command & Conquer titles and their expansions:

  • Tiberian Dawn
  • Red Alert
  • Renegade
  • Generals

A modding support pack has also been released for multiple C&C titles on the SAGE engine. This appears to be a massive boon towards preserving and improving the ease and quality of playing these C&C games in the future, and maybe even the Battle for Middle-earth games that share their SAGE engine.

Additionally, they have enabled Steam Workshop support for the following titles:

  • Renegade
  • Generals & Zero Hour
  • Tiberium Wars and Kane’s Wrath
  • Red Alert 3 & Uprising
  • Tiberian Twilight

Overall, the Command & Conquer community of modders and players seem to be extremely pleased and excited with this news!
