Mega Man Legends Installation on Windows 10

I'm really just not sure how I'm supposed to do anything that's listed.  I figured out that I could change my display adapter to 640x480, but then you said that I didn't actually have to do that, so I don't know which one it is.  Am I supposed to have dgVoodoo active in the root directory of Mega Man Legends or no?  Can WineD3D and dgVoodoo exist in the same folder or no?  Am I actually supposed to change my resolution or no?  I can't keep any of it straight.

What I really need is a video of someone doing this step-by-step, because I can't follow what's going on now.  I somehow managed to open two processes of Mega Man Legends on my third monitor, while they were both in 640x480, which doesn't make sense because that's not what I set that monitor to and they still didn't look correct.  I'm completely lost at this point.  Also, I don't know if this is a different version of WineD3D or not, because it doesn't appear to have any such .dll.340083943_MegaManLegendsP7.PNG.22256ef771a93f5bb8d4604905969735.PNG

First, reduce your monitor's resolution down to 800x600. Remove every single .dll file in the root directory of Mega Man Legends directory.

Don't worry about WineD3D. Instead, right-click MEGAMAN.EXE, go to Properties, Compatibility, tick Reduced colour mode and set to 16-bit colour.

Make sure MEGAMAN.EXE isn't running in the background by checking Task manager. You should be able to use F7 properly now.

Alright, I've done that.  I don't know if I was supposed to try and run the game, but I did anyway, and while it does run, it's just a black screen inside of a window after the Capcom animation.

I am very sorry for messing things up... Could you take a screenshot of the game's directory?

All that's altered is the replaced files from the Unfinished Business patch now:  1897418145_MegaManLegendsP8.thumb.PNG.7c6b82227bc2383c33b15eb1464e3231.PNG

Make sure you have set your display resolution to 800x600 when trying to run the game. Personally I would unplug all monitors except one to keep things simple.

Okay, so that time it did run and the graphics and audio were both present, instead of just audio last time (I forgot to mention that).  I have some sort of suspicion that this game doesn't like me having multiple monitors or something, maybe that's unrelated, but I don't know at this point.

Are the graphics working properly now? If the graphics display properly, extract dgVoodoo again, making sure that all the .dll's and stuff are copied (shown in attached screenshot).

After re-installing dgVoodoo, right-click MEGAMAN.EXE, go to Properties, then Compatibility and tick "Run in 640x480 screen resolution", Apply and close. (remember to revert this later!)

Copying what cloudhaacker said,  "Open up dgVoodoo and on the DirectX tab check Disable & Passthrough to real DirectX. We have to turn it off temporarily to change the renderer. Start the game, and once it starts try pressing F7. In the first cutscene with the ship and the clouds you should see an immediate effect, the clouds look like they're outlined when DirectX wrapper is turned on this is what you want, and the door will look right in the first scene after starting a new game, otherwise the door is almost black. Once you have the right renderer picked, use F9 to exit to menu then again to exit game, untick "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" and uncheck the Disable box in dgVoodoo to renable it."

Sorry, still no dice, the program continues to crash upon pressing F7, no matter whether I have the game to 640x480 in compatibility or if I do it myself manually.  I've turned off both other monitors, I have all of the files lined up as shown, I have "Passthrough to real DirectX" ticked.  I still don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not, I have to be if it works for you both.  I'm going to give up for the night, it's past midnight where I live.

If I could make a final request before I go, it would be that someone makes a video, or at the very least, a series of screenshots of this setup being done, because the way the process is written still confuses me, and I'm not sure if I'm following along correctly or not.  As I said, this process obviously works, because it's been proven, I just can't seem to figure out where I'm going wrong.

I appreciate everyone's help.

I won't have time until the weekend to try to record or take screenshots - but let's try the most simple approach. Start over from scratch, delete everything you've done.

Install the game, nothing else (no dgvoodoo, unfinished business, etc.) (For myself - I don't actually install the game, I copy everything from the disk to a folder I make where I want the game installed, still works the same and you don't have to have the disk in anymore, but you should be able to actually install it and have the same results)

Run the game and try to get the F7 switch to happen. Look for change in the clouds or the door/shadows like my pictures showed.

Then once you have that settled, add the Unfinished Business mod.

Then add the dgVoodoo files to the games folder so it's easy to find, copy the .dll files from the MS - x86 folder into your main game folder and set up your dgVoodoo how you want.

Now I just set this all up again to test it, and since it was a "new setup" I had one other problem that you may or may not have. So only do these steps if you have the same experience.

Once I had everything setup and I ran the game, it came up in a small window in the middle of the screen. So if you push F8 it switches to Fullscreen. It looked weird the first time I did that, and I justt had to exit the game and then start it again.

Then the game came up oversized onscreen because I have my screen scaling set to 125%. So to fix that, I had to right click the game exe and go to the properties, set the compatibility to Disable Fullscreen Optimizations and Change high DPI settings - check both boxes.

Hopefully that gets you where you want to be buddy. I think if we have several people getting this running right, we should contact the PCGaming page about the fix to the lighting! 🙂 Good luck, let us know if you get it working, sorry it got so convoluted in there! This is the most simple I can make it - and it seems like it works fine, at least for me!
