Move content from StrategyWiki to PCGW

At StrategyWiki, we've been contemplating reducing our scope for things that don't directly add to guides/walkthroughs.  Some of the information we have is also very specific to PC gaming.  You guys cover some of it already, so as our partners, it makes sense that we move some of the content over to you. Our licenses are also one way compatible (SW -> PCGW is ok).

First one we've discussed is moving all our game engine info here. Would you guys be interested in copying whatever information we have about engines over here?  We have an Engines category to track them all.

The way content is handled on PCGW is different though, you'd pretty much have to eliminate a ton of details in order to cram the important stuff into the Key Points, the wiki isn't supposed to be used to describe or explain stuff in depth. I kinda like to get to the point too though, and it's nice to just get what's actually needed sometimes at a quick glance.

I honestly think you should just leave this content the way it is, if anything important is actually needed I suppose someone could adapt some of it, but I don't think there's any point for you to delete all that stuff, seeing as you also went through all the trouble to write it and that type of content fits more with your wiki.

Like this for example, you'll never see something like this on PCGW.

http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Category:Unreal_Engine

Unless it's an older page that wasn't cleaned up.

So you guys don't cover any content about the engines themselves?  I think a lot of that information is actually just copied from wikipedia, so if if doesn't fit within your scope, we may compare with them.

Do you have any tracking about which games use which engines, or is it merely just a link in the infobox?

What do you mean by tracking? If you literally mean "list all games which use game engine [x]", yes we do. Using Unreal Engine 4 as an example, so long as the info has been added into a game's infobox, and the appropriate engine page created, it's automatic.

Ah, semantic mediawiki, pretty cool :).

I guess if you guys aren't interested in the content of the Engine pages, then perhaps our list of games for each engine could be useful for you guys? Help make sure you haven't missed any?

All the engine info is now wiped out from StrategyWiki.  I updated a few missing entries on PCGW, but you had most of them already.  I'm bringing up the discussion for the next set of data clearing soon and will update this thread once we reach a decision.

Our next discussion is to move PC Game requirements to PCGW - http://strategywiki.org/wiki/StrategyWiki:Staff_lounge#Remove_PC_system_requirements.

You guys have a section on requirements, so I figure this is more useful.  Assuming the consensus is to remove the information, would you be interested in bringing over this information before we purge it?

I'm sure someone will figure out a clever way to compare the data quickly and create a list of anything that might need manual migration/checking.

We have 387 guides that use Template:pcreq, which would be my first template to purge.

  • 2 weeks later...

We should probably have most of these covered already, but it'd definitely be interesting data to check for pre-digital titles (if the requirements you have are not sourced from GOG and co., but actual boxes).

I'll probably start clearing out some of these requirements next week.  Anyone interested in the info, or shall I go ahead and wipe it out?

Wouldn't some of these system requirements conflict now? I don't know how accurate the requirements on both wikis are, most people don't really care about these things for older games anyway though, you could erase them already? We can sitll see the old text in the history thingy if someone needs to copy the data. If you really want to then remove them from your wiki, but I don't think anyone will really bother moving any of this stuff on the PCGamingWiki website.
