About This File

FULL CREDITS TO Charlie Brown (aka Chuck-IE), AuToMaNiAk005
I wasn't able to contact authors, so I'm re-uploading this file form different source (from HERE)

Patch features:

  1. Full support of common resolutions: 1280x720, 1366x768, 1600x900, 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 3840x2160
  2. Fixed "Widescreen" option from the game settings menu. Now it works as intended.
  3. Applies 60 FPS patch on game start (Can be configured in fps.cfg for other refresh rates).
  4. Support for Xbox controllers with the most convenient layout for the game.

How to install:

  1. Download the archive and copy the contents of the folder inside the archive with the resolution you need into the directory of game installation.
  2. (OPTIONAL) Set the following parameters for the IceAge2CustomFPS.exe and IceAge2pc.exe files: "Run as administrator" and "Application scaling mode" (right-click -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Change high DPI settings -> scaling mode - Application).
  3. Start the game via IceAge2CustomFPS.exe.
  4. Turn on the game and change resolution in settings to match your aspect ratio (1024x788 for 16:9, 640x480/800x600 for 4:3)

ATTENTION FOR LINUX USERS:

In order to run the game with the fix under wine/proton, you should add command-line argument (startup argument) to IceAge2CustomFPS.exe :

cd [path to the game folder]

The path should point to the location of IceAge2CustomFPS.exe, but not the file itself (folder where executable located, not .exe itself)

Patch doesn't work on Linux Kubuntu 25.10 with Wine 10. Vanilla game launching fine with a No-CD .exe, but this patch makes it fail to lauch regardless of which .exe file I use (Vanilla, No-CD, and the provided one). The farthest I got was launching the terminal through Proton using the provided Launch Options, but then it just infinitely searches for content. Patch probably works great on Windows, but it is a mess on Linux. Not sure what to do. Can provide screenshots if needed for troubleshooting.

First of all, Linux distro doesn't matter in this situation. The patch was tested under proton both using steam and lutris as a startup framework. While I didn't tested Wine, the base game working under it suggests the patch should too, as it is just simple shell script that should and does work on any taken modern Wine/proton version.

Worth mentioning that the startup can rarely take up some time, up to 50 seconds. If it doesn't start otherwise, rest assured - you have user error situation.

Make sure you follow instructions closely.

I tried running as administrator through Winetricks and it gave me an error. Not sure if you can help with this or not, but any form of help would be appreciated. I don't know how to add a command-line argument or the startup argument properly. I am very new to Linux. It seem like it can't find the application. Have the game installed in two different places. In my .wine hidden folder on my home directory (Z:) and on a seperate x64 Wine Prefix on my Z: drive too. Here are the directory locations for each one:

I will attach screenshots of what both directory trees/locations look like too

1. Z: /home/skyrus/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sierra/Ice Age 2 The Meltdown/
2. Z: /home/skyrus/.local/share/wineprefixes/64-Bit_Prefix/drive_c/Sierra/Ice_Age_2_The_Meltdown/

Don't mind the underscores in the second directory tree/location. That ws me trying to use a Wine CMD to launch it, but it still doesn't work that way. The underscores can be removed if need be. Regardless, the same problem presents itself regardless if the underscores are present in the directory tree/location or not. The IceAge2CustomFPS.exe launcher for fails to launch under normal privileges and as an administrator it can't find the application. Tried patching and unpatch it with Uniws.exe and nothing works. Unpatching it has to be done manually by replacing the .exe file, hence the backup .exe files. Uniws can't find the .wine directory because it is hidden, so I have to open Uniws in a 64-bit Prefix, when opened through there I can find my directory, but it prevents me from patching the .Exe file, as seen in the next screenshot. Could that be because the file is already patched? Again I am so lost on what to do. I don't even understand how to even get the launcher to work under Wine or to add a startup arguement to it.

I tried launching it using a startup argument via the Launch Options box through Steam and no matter what I do it still just infinitely searches for the process and starting any of the exe fails to launch the game while the terminal window is running. Tried running with and without the disc, still the same problem. Removed the .exe file from the startup argument, same issue persists. Did all the above for each installation location, same issue. Switched to Proton 10.0.4 instead of Proton GE, for both install locations, same issue. Not sure what I am doing wrong why this is so broken on my end. Again any help would be greatly appreicated. I don't understand why doesn't work. The game runs perfectly fine without the patch with the no-CD .exe, it just doesn't like to run at all through Steam (a bummer, but at least I can play the game in some capacity). If you don't have any further advice on what to do, then I'll probably just give up an play the vanilla game with No-CD .exe file. Ideally, if I can get this patch working or if a fix can get put in the works that would be fantastic.

Lutris is an absolute garbage launcher from my experience and I refuse to use it under any almost circumstances, unless absolutely necessary. If our options with Steam and Wine are exhausted, perhaps I can consider trying Lutris. Only suggest using Lutris as a last resort, but even then I doubt it will work because it has never worked for me.

Sorry for the wall of text and screenshots, but based on what I see here and have done, I have followed the instructions to the best of my ability. If you still don't believe me, I can provide more screenshots or video proof, if necessary. I also own this game on disc and I have installed it legally, so don't throw the piracy or a cracked version being an issue card at me. The game should run perfectly fine under the patch, but it doesn't for some strange reason. Perhaps there is a perfectly reasonable explantion as to why it refuses to work, but I can't seem to find it on my own.

Game launches with a blackscreen and the game nor the desktop don't respond until closing it. Got it in this state when I launched the Desktop launcher icon while the CutsomFPS.exe was searching for a process, and the terminal starting patching and it finished, but the game didn't load at all due to a Wine backtrace error. Once the execution of the file failed, the terminal CustomFPS.exe just resumed searching for the process. I left a screen shot of the icon I used to open the game, don't mind the custom icon on the desktop, I changed it because the vanilla Icon sucks.
