About This File

Comes with a RAR file, which includes an ASI plugin intended to fix the field of view in the first-person sci-fi action game "Gene Troopers" (2005), as the game's engine, CloakNT, crops the view at resolutions with an aspect ratio wider than 4:3 (Vert-).

Source code available here: https://github.com/alphayellow1/AlphaYellowWidescreenFixes/blob/main/source/fixes/GeneTroopersFOVFix

Instructions:

1. Extract all files to the game folder.

2. Download ThirteenAG's Ultimate ASI Loader (32-bit version of winmm.dll), and also extract it to the game folder.

3. Set the desired resolution to fix the FOV and FOV factor in GeneTroopersFOVFix.ini.

I don't think this mod works properly because it breaks part of the HUD (as one can see in the screenshots) and the game's options menu too.

Well, there are some issues at higher resolutions, but it's related to the resolution itself, since this mod only touches in the FOV. Also I fixed the cropped menus, not sure which issue you're referring to.

I see, then I would have to assume the engine's incapable of handling widescreen, which would be consistent with my findings. Hence recommending a 4:3 resolution override with black borders using dgVoodoo2. As for the broken menus: change the resolution to 1080p and then try to change anything in the advanced video settings for instance: can't even see what's currently set. It's like that for many entries.

Can you send some screenshots of your issue?

Sure. As you can see, the entries are misaligned and all the switches on the right are missing. It's like that for at least half the menus. Seems to happen every time with GT running in modern widescreen (native, your mod, an older WS mod from somewhere else).

Without direct comparison, you wouldn't even know there's supposed to be something there. Menu just seems non-responsive and broken which can be confusing; has happened at least to one Let's Player I've watched.

Yeah, sadly the engine in its earlier versions didn't support widescreen too well. I just tested the game on 1920x1080 with the fix disabled, and that happens as well. Someone has to do a mod to fix the HUD as well.
