Which copy protection or DRM is the freeware release of Area 51 (2005) using?

If it were, there would be no copy protection in the software.

It's something of an accident. The free to download version was intended to be ad-supported.

However, the game's latest official patch disables the DRM, making it "freeware" indefinitely.
