Issue with "Billy Blade: Temple of Time" crashing at boss fight.

Hi - I purchased a copy of the game "Billy Blade: Temple of Time" via Steam, and it continually crashed, either from double jumping, or setting the resolution too high. I did make a community post on the steam community page, but didnt hear anything back.

To try and find the issue, I got a copy of the original ISO of the game and tried playing that, which worked absolutely fine. However, once I got to the first boss fight, it begins a cutscene and then completely crashes out.

I've tried loading the game normally, as well as with DXWnd, to try and solve the issue, but get the same problem. I've tried changing resolution settings and other in-game settings, but still crashes. I don't really know how to debug the issue, in order to see if I can determine whats happening and make changes accordingly - does anyone have any advice? I suppose next step would be to try the GOG version... EDIT - tried the GOG version, same issues as steam. Copied my saves across and boss cutscene crashes the game also.

If someone would be willing to take a look, I've uploaded my save files here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZTAAv9hKEPoAzuXhyXK6y3ePKX5lMPl-?usp=sharing

Thanks!

Okay guys!
I'm gonna make you love me.

This game is not optimized at all, and there are many crashes during gameplay.
The fix is simple. Your computer is too powerful for the game (yes, really), and the FPS is probably going over 800 at times. If the FPS exceeds 30, the game's scripts crash at certain moments and the game becomes unplayable.

I’ve experienced really awful crashes that made me replay parts of the levels again and again, because at the exact same moment the game would close itself.

The easiest way to fix this issue is to download RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS).
When started, it will appear in the system tray. Open it from there and add the Billy Blade .exe file.

You can find the .exe at this path if you bought the game through Steam:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Billy Blade Temple of Time

Now, in the right menu of the RTSS program, set “Framerate limit” to 30 FPS.

That’s it. There won’t be any more crashes. Just don’t close RTSS during gameplay, and keep it minimized after applying the settings.

Have fun, people. It was really cool for me to play this classic game from my childhood.

Enjoy!
