leomiller 0 Share Posted April 5, 2024 I am planning on making a browser game where the user can take the URL of a Wikipedia article, my game will parse the main text of the article, and the main text will be used in my game. I plan on removing any media files and hyperlinks (blue words) when parsing the article for my game, so it will just be pure text. The business model I'm planning is to have the game free to play on the browser, and money will be earned through donations and possibly ads. I'm not at all good at reading legal and copyright articles, so I just need some validation, I guess. Some questions I have: Is it okay (as in legal) to use the Wikipedia article as described above? I've been reading that the articles are under CC BY-SA and GFDL. I've also read that anything that uses CC BY-SA should also be CC BY-SA. Does that mean if I use the article in my game, my game (all its source code and assets) needs to be licensed under CC BY-SA? Other concerns that I should be aware of? uno online Reply (Quote)
Aemony 158 Share Posted April 5, 2024 Hi, We are not associated with Wikipedia, nor can we give you any legal advice. I recommend reaching out to a lawyer for legal assistance. Br, Aemony Reply (Quote)
