Early-Game Crashes in Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut

I haven't been able to find any other posts discussing this issue anywhere. My friend just purchased Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut after my glowing recommendation, but his copy has some major problems.

First, the opening cutscene will freeze about 1 or 2 seconds in, and not unfreeze. Pausing the game and skipping the cutscene is the only workaround.

Then, once you skip the cutscene, you run into another problem. Dropped in the first room, you can interact with the computer just fine. But the moment he tries to interact with Dr. Reed, the game fades to black and the window closes. No error, no glitchy noises, nothing. The window just closes.

We've tried several fixes, which I'll list below, alongside his specs.
- Windows compatibility mode, for every version available (8, 7, Vista, and XP)
- Running the game with DirectX 11 enabled
- Running the game with DirectX 11 disabled
- Verifying the integrity of his install
- Reinstalling the game entirely
- Turning the graphical settings all the way down

His specs:
- GTX 1070- 8GB
- 16GB DDR4 RAM
- Ryzen 5 3600- 6 cores
I doubt any other components would influence this issue, but I will provide more info if requested. We are currently trying some other fixes, and will update this thread with any further fixes we try.

Currently, I am attempting to send him my files for the game in the hopes that he can simply put them in the Steam installation folder and play. As of writing, we have not tried this method.
