Recently, Grand Theft Auto IV was removed off of Steam for unknown reasons. Many believe it was due to music licencing issues, which did cause some songs to be removed on the 10 year anniversary of Grand Theft Auto IV. Others also hypothesized that they ran out of Games for Windows Live keys, and had to generate more in order to relist the game. Today, Rockstar has released an official statement on the matter:

With Microsoft no longer supporting Games For Windows Live, it is no longer possible to generate the additional keys needed to continue selling the current version of the game. We are looking at other options for distributing GTAIV for PC and will share more information as soon as we can.

For the time being, you can still get Steam keys for Grand Theft Auto IV off of Humble Bundle, though it is unknown if you will receive a GFWL key with the purchase. Grand Theft Auto: Episodes of Liberty City is not affected, and can still be bought through Steam.

For the time being, we'll have to wait and see what Rockstar will do.

EDIT: It seems the game was finally delisted off of Humble Bundle, and the only way to get copies of the game is to buy a physical copy.

Would be better if "key generation" or something like that was mentioned already in the title, because the idea that the average joe immediately get is instead that there's something broken with the "software" on their system.
