Soeb and I decided that the categories used previously for the Files section needed an overhaul. Files were becoming hard to find without a link and categories were being disproportionately used. So new categories and sub-sections were created to better suit and organize our files.

A quick rundown of the (current) layout:

  • Applications (for standalone applications and software)
    • General (a catch-all for anything that doesn't fit in the categories that are available)
    • Demos (official game demos and shareware go here)
    • Full games (for complete and (legally) free games. Pirated software and abandonware are not proper submissions!)
    • Dedicated servers (for software needed to run a dedicated multiplayer server for a game)
    • Tools (no longer a standalone category. For applications that have specific and technical uses)
  • DLL files (Same as before)
  • Game fixes (for game-specific fixes)
    • General (a catch-all for anything that doesn't fit in the categories that are available)
    • Official patches (for patches officially provided by the developer)
    • Unofficial patches (for patches created by the community)
    • Gamepad configurations (for controller-based fixes and custom button mapping files)
    • Scripts (no longer a standalone category)
  • Extra game content (NEW! For extra developer and community-created game content)
    • Official content (for developer-created content)
    • Community content (for smaller community-created content like map packs, models, etc.)
    • Mods (for community-created game modifications. This is NOT the same as the Community content sub-section!)
  • Other (Same as before. For anything that doesn't fit in any of the other categories)

Any category with sub-sections will have the root category act as a hub. Eventually, submissions to the root category will no longer be allowed, so please add future submissions to the most appropriate sub-section.

      Note: After applying the fix, Hardware acceleration and Allow EAX effects will still be greyed out in UruSetup.exe, however those settings no longer apply as this bypasses those settings to be forced on after the game has started.
      This fix allows Hardware Acceleration and EAX to be enabled on modern systems using DSOAL, OpenAL Soft, or Creative ALchemy in URU: Complete Chronicles. Works on GOG version and should work with other versions also.

      ==Installation==
      1. Extract files to <path to game>  and overwrite existing files.
      2. Set both files (plClientSetup.cfg and audio.ini) to read-only (right click each file --> properties --> check read-only --> click Apply and ok)

      ==details==
      plClientSetup.cfg forces the audio device to be Generic Hardware by adding Audio.SetDeviceName "Generic Hardware" and has Audio.UseHardware and Audio.UseEAX set to true.
      Audio.ini has Audio.UseHardware and Audio.UseEAX set to true.

      For the game "Afterlife" by LucasArts, there are three configuration files; the one for the DOS version, the DOSBox.conf file, and the Win95 version.  How can I format this to make two paths under the same OS family?

      I am thinking that it may help with clarity to put in place a loose policy on the way entries are titled in the Files section to improve clarity. I think this will help people get to our files through Google, and makes the pages easier to scan.

      Here's my suggestions:
      Game - Filename - Description

      Example:
      Alan Wake - VectorBlur.zip - disabling motion blur

      For description, I suggest copying and pasting any kind of readme file that is attached, and link to the main Wiki page for the game.

      Any thoughts?
