After Dualshock 4 got released, more and more games are supporting it directly and adding support for generic DirectInput as well. Even if it's depreciated it's still alive and kicking. Actually looking at XInput limitations compared to DirectInput, it's impossible for XInput controller to have any more or less buttons than regular 360 controller and windows always states the controller as 360 controller despite the model. So I would say simply use 360 controller article for XInput related stuff, then link to it from third party XInput controllets.

I was unsure where to put the info about API, after I put it into API tables input field, someone corrected me to put it into input sections controller note.

When I put up "controller recommended" key note, I always explain the stuff in Input section of the page and link to it. One really good example is Fairy Bloom Freesia article, which states obvious things and then it's up to user do they want to use controller or not. Game only showing controller button prompts isn't good enough reason and I always put it as negative point in input section.

If a fix requires a particular class of program (ex. hex editors), choose a program, provide a download link for it.... I'd rather have a page for said program category rather than having to mention this hundreds of times

So TotalBiscuit has been galvanizing the community with the concept of a 'Framerate Police' Steam Curator. However we already have a very big list of crowdsourced information on games that fail to provide high framerates (although our sights are set higher- a true tick is for native120FPS support). It would be good to expand our community and get an influx of traffic.

I'm thinking of creating a new project, e.g. PCGamingWiki:List of games that support high framerate. Technically this would be a list of all games but sortable via the 'High framerate' attribute. This would have a custom intro to cater to people who had heard of the 'Framerate Police', and would encourage new editors to contribute information to PCGamingWiki and link to the editing guide, etc.

I've been experimenting with the queries but haven't been able to get it working:
high_frame_rate::true OR high_frame_rate::hackable OR high_frame_rate::false Could you help me out with the SMW code?

Edit: the Special:Ask query seems to work but when I embed it, e.g. http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/PCGamingWiki:List_of_High_Framerate_Games the icons don't show up.

Will this issue ever get fixed? Anyway, Dead Space ran at around 30 FPS (Medium settings) on my Toshiba laptop, pretty low end for anything gaming related. Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Pentium 4 again, easily 60 FPS on the UT series, Unreal Tournament 99, UT2003, UT2004, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (I don't remember how this game ran, but it ran well anyway), Max Payne 1 and 2, run very well on extremely low end machines. F.E.A.R, can be quite intensive, but it's still low end. Team Fortress 2, although it ran like shit on my laptop, way worse than Dead Space, so meh? Worms 3D Mayhem, some free X-COM clone I can't remember, but X-COM UFO Defense, Apocalypse and others are bound to run on low end systems.

Is Overlord low end? I remember downloading a demo for it.

Neverwinter Nights 2, Baldur's Gate, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 4, or all of them really. SpellForce, Dragonshard. MDK, MDK 2. Silent Storm, X2 (space game thing). Call of Duty 1, Dungeon Keeper 2, Battle Engine Aquila (this game is so cool).

I'm surprised Garry's Mod is not in this list, or the Half Life games, Counter Strike 1.6, CS:Source (a bit more intensive).

I played these on a Pentium 4, they always ran very well, The I Of The Dragon, NFS Most Wanted / Underground 2, Evil Genius, Black & White 1 and 2, Sid Meier's Pirates, Battlefield 2 and 2142, Chaos Theory, Age of Mythology.

I keep forgetting what games I listed because PCGW keeps eating my edits, blaahhh.

Indeed, since we already have to use that table regardless for steam/origin/uplay cloud, it's stupid not to include an universal solution.
I was just wondering.. is there anything else other than gamesave manager?
If not multiplatform.. at least, you know, open source?

Mirh reacted to Expack3 in Hiding redirects in the search box
Having redirects in the search bar is necessary since a game might have different common spellings or have had different names over the years. Without them there, people, not being aware the game isn't spelled the way they think it is or that the game was originally called something else than it is now, will think we don't have a game they're interested in when we actually do.

That said, I agree how redirects are currently shown could use improvement. Here's my take:

The redirects would be displayed in grey (maybe darker than shown here for legibility) and indented under the article they link to. They'll still highlight so people can see that yes, this is related to what you're looking for. If it was deemed needed for some further clarity, I could see something to indicate these redirects are, in fact, directly related; something like this, perhaps:

When an engine page isn't split by version the version labels can be specified like this: UnityUnity 4

This displays the specific name while linking to the real page without a redirect. This also means it would be easy to migrate such engines to version-specific pages if that is needed later on.

I've already been doing that, original name on game page, then that redirects to current company and then note what was earlier names and dates: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Publisher:Marvelous_AQL

Another similar issue is with engines, mainly RPG Maker and Clickteam Fusion, where they are updating engine, but there are tons of differend variations of it with next to zero difference to end user (in some cases it's almost impossible to tell which version of engine is used unless some intense googling) and only handful of games to begin with. I have autonomously redirected those pages to unified page as well instead of making single engine page for single game. Good example is Freedom Planet where it uses Sonic Worlds which is actually using Clickteam Fusion as base, someone else redirected that though.

Updating this article is going to get a little weird; here's Rocksteady's roadmap if no one has read it yet from the 8,000,000 sites it's been linked from XD:
http://steamcommunity.com/games/208650/announcements/detail/145587678178226617

Currently they've claim to re-enabled "rain effects" (does that mean both shaders as well or just textures?) and AO, while noting that they are trying to "improve it further" which confuses me. Maybe I'm just tired ATM. Also they claimed to have fixed the crashes resulting from turning off motion blur proper in the .ini files. No note of the missing bokeh DOF and console-style TXAA - are those fixed with the same bug that disabled the rain effects/AO?

A lot of Steam comments joking that they are alpha-testing it. Can't say I blame them, but it is a very rare thing to take part in so publicly from a AAA dev. Anyway, if anyone can verify their fixes feel free (if motion blur pans out you can nuke the "turn down" solution alternative).

I admire your passion for accurate TruForm implementation! We are truly getting into the nitty gritty detail of accurate presentation of older games.

Unfortunately I don't see much benefit for us to actively pursue these fixes. The games work on modern hardware, and accurate TruForm implementation is only going to be relevant to a very small number of people.

However we could place information in the wiki for fix projects that are ongoing in the form of references, which point to progress on externally hosted fix projects like this TruForm project.

Both AMD and Nvidia have released drivers for Batman: Arkham Knight, so you'll want to update if you haven't already.

Dragon Age: Inquisition used Denuvo Anti-Tamper and I don't recall such widespread performance complaints for that title, so DRM blame might be misplaced. The presence of a 30 FPS cap in Batman: Arkham Knight could indicate that Rocksteady don't have full confidence in the optimisation of this game. The Lords of the Fallen developers said that Denuvo Anti-Tamper only caused a 5% performance hit during their testing (they discussed this in a Twitch stream that has since been deleted).

Some of the classic Sierra gaming community's best programmers, tikalat, NewRisingSun and ripsaw8080, have come together to create new sound drivers for various titles like the Quest series of games (King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory), The Incredible Machine, and more. These drivers range from bug-fixes to new functionality, such as simultaneous MT-32 and SoundBlaster support (for high-quality music and PCM audio) in games which normally only support one device at a time. You can find an introduction to their work here, and you can find an up-to-date (as of 6/7/2015) list of the various patches here.

Here's a summary of that thread:

The initial conversation was finding drivers which would allow older GPUs compatible with the game to run on modern systems and lacked any change to DirectX 8.x handling which would bug out Pandora Tomorrow's lighting, especially relevant for NVIDIA users. (Mirh listed several sources for compatible drivers.) Eventually, a user going by the name Komat did some assembly and DX debug output deep-dives on the game and came up with a special wrapper, still very much a work-in-progress, designed to override the obsoleted DX8 behavior with modern equivalents. The remaining pages of the thread mostly consist of users testing out the wrapper and reporting their results, along with Komat's responses.

Resolution support specifics can go in the notes for that screen type ("widescreen resolution" in this case) or under a section for that screen type if the explanation is too long to fit conveniently in the notes.

issues that affect 3D support can go in the VR support section. I've added a very basic mention there now. If an issue only applies in 3D mode it would go under VR support instead of the regular video settings.
