Other Places: new video series about game locations
Andytizer replied to Andytizer's topic in Blog (archived)
No problem :) seems a really interested use of PC recording to make something a bit different. And it allows me to experience games like Mirror's Edge which I never really gave a chance - although I always heard such great stuff about its art direction and aesthetic I always heard the gameplay and bossfights had some big problems. -
Other Places is a set of amazing videos of game locations with terrific production values and great use of music. These striking and hauntingly beautiful videos produced by @ultrabrilliant, a British games journalist. Obviously created on PC, most likely using various tools to hide the interface and clip through the world to find the most interesting and evocative shots. I wonder what the general techniques are for this kind of video capture? Here's a sample: Click here to view the article

500W is normally fine for the kind of system you are on, the instability is probably caused by something else.

Happy to announce new Forums/content sites are in place, and the older Forums are being deprecated. Single sign-on should be working, if not please contact me at andytizer@gmail.com. Things that still need doing: move all older attachments into the Downloads section and re-link on PCGamingWiki some work on the global sidebar (latest topics, latest news, etc.) double check permissions on all groups and news submissions reskin PCGamingWiki to incorporate the IP Board header redo Home page to incorporate Forums/News feeds redo friendly URLs for the site (JRWR is working on this) speed optimisations (IP Board seems to be loading a little slow compared to MediaWiki or the old PHPBB3 forums) implement slider comparison for screenshots Long road ahead still but we'll get there soon enough. Please leave a comment if there's anything you'd like implementing. Click here to view the article

Definitely very exciting news. John Carmack is being wasted at Id, and his work will be more appreciated over at Oculus Rift. Click here to view the article

Small update: The bridge between IP Board and MediaWiki is not yet complete. We encountered some problems last week which forced us to do a rollback, but thankfully JRWR was there to fix everything with a short downtime and minimal data loss. The original developer is no longer working on the project and didn't charge for the service. Invision Power Services, the company that creates and maintains IP Board, has recently revamped their enterprise services, and we have purchased their bespoke SSO (single sign-on) bridging service, although at a hefty rate. They routinely do custom SSO for far more complex systems than MediaWiki, so I am expecting a very good result soon. The developer has already begun poking around and developing a plugin for the SSO. Here's a sneak peak at what I've been working on lately- a new community news page - FYI don't create an account yet, I don't want anything to interfere with the forum conversion which will be happening soon: http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/index ... index.html It doesn't look like much, but it's a radical departure from the stock IP Board layout. Some features I can't wait to start using: - emails which state who the author is (in fact PHPBB3 doesn't even show the message in the email, I had to hack it in) - setting an 'answer' to a post (very useful for Assignments, Improvements (to mark when something is resolved), technical support threads, etc.) - post tagging - proper file system with ratings, comments, sorting - proper mod/hook support

Hi-Rez have decided to shut down their server permanently, stating: They have decided to move focus their official social media efforts onto outlets such as Twitch, YouTube, Facebook and subreddits such as /r/Tribes, which has had some pretty poor response from the comunity. Which isn't surprising when you tell people that you are permanently deleting 3 years worth of community posts with only 24 hours notice. Click here to view the article

Torchlight 2 Mac Port Hit 'Unexpected Complexities'
Andytizer replied to Andytizer's topic in News and general PC gaming
A bit disappointing as I will be picking up a Macbook Pro when the refresh comes out, and I'm very interested in keep up my Torchlight II games with some of my friends :). -

The original Rise of the Triad: Dark War was first released back in 1995 (and re-released on GOG.com in 2009) by Apogee Software on a heavily modified Wolfenstein engine. The 2013 reboot, also published by Apogee, is developed by Interceptor Entertainment whose only other release to their name is an iOS port of Duke Nukem II. Their reboot promises to wrap the classic Rise of the Triad gameplay in a shiny new graphical update, developed on the ever-enduring Unreal Engine 3. Click here to view the article

Just to update everyone - we started early and our developer Chris aka Geonode, has nearly completed integration of IP Board and MediaWiki. We have hit a small snag because of DNS propagation but we may have something to show in the next day or so.
