Ultra Street Fighter 4 PC to use Steamworks over GFWL
Andytizer replied to Andytizer's topic in Blog (archived)
I remember Fallout 3 has this quirk that if you play with an online profile, you just cannot switch this back into an offline one, it's a pain in the arse.- 6 replies

From @Haunts, a Capcom employee: This is great news as GFWL is the bane of the universe, but I'd been genuinely surprised if any more PC games used GFWL ever again anyway. Major support for it has dropped across the board: the last title to use it seems to be Ms. Splosion Man released April 3rd this year. A list of games using GFWL can be found on Wikipedia. Thanks these are good suggestions. I'll see if I can add this information into the title automatically.

Xbox One Controller PC compatibility in 2014
Andytizer replied to Andytizer's topic in Blog (archived)
Some more information from CVG: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/423871/features/the-100m-story-behind-the-xbox-one-controller/ New features over the current controller: new D-Pad 'Impulse' triggers (force feedback) micro-USB port reduced button latency The introduction of the micro-USB is a nice benefit for PC gamers providing a nice option to play by wire, and is hopefully better supported than the DualShock 3 was for PC. However the wireless function will almost certainly require a new wireless dongle to use sync to PC. I already have x4 wireless Xbox 360 controllers, and I don't see any particular benefits with using the new controller. Any thoughts? Will there be adoption of these once these come onto the market, or will PC gamers be sticking to the Xbox 360 controller? -

I am thinking that it may help with clarity to put in place a loose policy on the way entries are titled in the Files section to improve clarity. I think this will help people get to our files through Google, and makes the pages easier to scan. Here's my suggestions: Game - Filename - Description Example: Alan Wake - VectorBlur.zip - disabling motion blur For description, I suggest copying and pasting any kind of readme file that is attached, and link to the main Wiki page for the game. Any thoughts?

This seems like a pretty common issue that looks like it started happening around July 12th: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/864972620868538451/ http://steamcommunity.com/app/620/discussions/0/846958724689594059/ http://steamcommunity.com/app/620/discussions/0/846958724638276772/ Maybe a bug in a recent update, or maybe something in a recent Steam update?

Games with the same name - policy change
Andytizer replied to Hungry eyes's topic in Development (concluded)
Let's put this to a (non-binding) poll and look at the numbers. Can you edit your post hungry_eyes and list the 4 options presented. -
I'm looking for some ideas for 600 width header images (maybe 600x300) to use for some regular features I'd like us to run. I draw inspiration from other blogs like RPS where they reuse header images for certain columns, e.g. Bargain Bucket. Here are some ideas: 1) Giveaways - this is a weekly feature that has been taken over by Pridit 2) What are you playing? - a regular weekly discussion about what games you are playing, what you're looking forward to, etc. Would be cool to get some accompanying graphics for these :). Also open to ideas for other community features.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback. I take it there is an issue with how much white-space there is at the top of the page. This is mostly caused by the padding and such in a non-standard logo size, which I may try to address by using a more horizontal logo layout. I also hope to fill blank space by utilising the area to put things like Steam/Facebook/Twitter logo links. For reference the IP Board default theme can be seen on their official board with a more compact header, which we will try to emualte. However I don't want to deviate too far from their design by moving search bars and such, as we would begin to bring in customisations which will become hard to support (e.g. displacing AdminCP link, etc). I think their design has been tried and tested in 3.x for a number of years now, and works well for most browsers and devices. Advertising on PCGamingWiki is essential to help achieve its goal - it funds the dedicated server hosting costs, new software like this forum, programming and development and it also allows us to supply review codes for new games and for our community to keep up to date with new releases. It's essential that there is a way of advertising on the site that is effective, but is respectful to the user and does not get in the way of the content. In terms of placement, I have put the horizontal 728x90 in the default placements in the header and footer and these are disabled for any logged in users. These are very much standard positions for almost every successful website. I do not think that we can be expected to signpost all banners to say 'this is advertising', and I think that doing so would be detrimental to the layout and the clickthrough rate, and looks ugly and unprofessional. The type of advertising displayed is determined by Google AdSense and will not not normally be 'Download this' type ads. As we fill in more content onto the forum, the ads will display more gaming-related banners (as they are on the Wiki), as well as banners based on your own searching history. In the coming months we will also be most likely be moving to a different ad provider, who will be providing gaming-only advertising (under discussion at the moment). Google also provide a 'heatmap' to show where ads are best placed on a page - and the best positions invariably push content down slightly, but I do not believe it is intrusive. The majority of professional websites use those kind of banner placements. I also hope that our policy of 'logged in = no ads' means that we also avoid lots of issues with ad perception, as you only need to login to avoid them entirely. I also hope this help to highlight and encourage more people to join and support our community, as new editors and contributors are our biggest resource. Anyway over the coming week I will doing some extensive work on reskinning PCGamingWiki to match the IP Board header, and to integrate things fully. Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback: 1) I'll IM you about the issue with the password. 2) I'll be switching the logo link as soon as I've reskinned the Wiki to include the navigation bar at the top.
