  1. Did you know that PCGamingWiki's most popular page nearly every day for the past 2 years has been this list which Nicereddy created - List of Local Multiplayer Games - http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_Local_Multiplayer_Games There is a big demand for these kinds of lists and we are sitting on a huge amount of data which I believe we're not taking full advantage of. Gamers use lists to find specific kinds of games, e.g. to find games with DRM, to find co-op and local multiplayer games, to sort and explore new types of games (and to check whether there are problems and fixes for them). Thanks to contributor efforts, particularly Soeb and Garrett's work on templates and Semantic MediaWiki, it's never been easier to create lists of games based on any nearly any criteria. Lists like the List of Local Multiplayer Games have gone from being painstakingly handmade into being automatically generated using SMW. PCGamingWiki has several Projects which basically boil down into Lists of some kind. Here's the current list of lists: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_Local_Multiplayer_Games http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/User:Soeb/Multiplayer_list http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/PCGamingWiki:GOG.com_Enhancement_Project http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Big_List_of_3rd_Party_DRM_on_Steam http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_Games_for_Windows_-_LIVE_games http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/PCGamingWiki:List_of_Games_Without_Native_60_FPS_Support http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_Low_End_Games As you can see above, each list is fairly inconsistent - naming, styling, goals, aims, etc. are all approached differently. I propose we do the following: a) Decide on an ideal list of lists and ditch ones which don't work and fix the naming - propose we add new lists like LAN Party Games, Portable Games, Steam games that give Origin keys, etc., Games with DualShock icons (just some ideas!) - fix up or remove others, e.g. GOG Enhancement Project, List of Low End Games - decide on whether a namespace is required or not required, agree on a consistent naming convention b) Streamline look and feel of actual pages to support its goals - easy to ready, explore, filter Examples: - left-align the game title to make it easier to scan - condense the dates (e.g. only list year rather than the full d/month/year) - align OS columns so it's easier to scan - make tables mobile friendly - move project information below the main table - I'm open to other ideas c) Metacritic score I know Metacritic isn't a favoured scoring system amongst the PCGamingWiki community but: - it's a good general indicator of quality of a game - it's the most widely used scoring system - used by Steam, Wikipedia, etc. d) Genres - previously I was against this when setting up PCGamingWiki, but miss this feature more and more when looking for games - this will help to find specific types of games - e.g. First-person shooter games that don't run at 60FPS - generally helpful when 'exploring' and looking for new types of games - we can draw these initially from Wikipedia or Steam and even build our own taxonomy Anyway I'm open to feedback on this going forward, this is hereby open to discussion to the community.
  2. PCGamingWiki won't officially condone pirating games for other users. If you are looking for a specific games that would benefit PCGW then we can allocate funds to purchase under our Assignments system.
  3. Is there an easy way to show all wiki pages with Gamesplanet links?
  4. Have spoken to Gamesplanet and they've followed through on our request for keys, we have: Fallout 4 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Star Wars: Battlefront 3 (to be released soon) Also we have 3 Anno 2205 keys to use, 2 of which we'll be doing a promotion/giveaway. Hopefully this is the start of a good working relationship, and means our November is going to be very busy!
  5. Hmm that's a weird one, perhaps we should include them then - I can't find anywhere else to buy them digitally.
  6. I reckon it should be okay to remove that mention. However I would think that those other sites are 'limited' key resellers- they probably have a stock of old Steam keys that may or may not run out. Still worth mentioning though.
  7. I'll be making several requests for keys for AAA games in November on Monday, let's see if they have follow-through.
  8. From my discussion with Gamesplanet, we will have access to anything they have access to, just need to ask and it'll be placed into our shared Gamesplanet account (access has been given to Pridit and Soeb). I imagine this being requested on a case by case basis. Some games will have multiple copies, e.g. they are offering up 3 copies of Anno 2205. I'll be making the first requests on Monday so hopefully will have a better understanding of the process then. I think it makes sense for us to use the 'default' domain for now and let them geolocate to the FR or DE site. They'll be adding USD pricing soon. I'm happy for the x3 locations to be listed: Gamesrocket, DLGamer, FunStock Digital They'll just be one-offs, no need to add them to any templates. Many thanks all especially Garrett for jumping in so quickly and those who have added the links so far, much appreciated.
  9. After some fruitful discussion with Jean-Phillipe from Gamesplanet - digital PC games shop, we've come to a collaboration agreement that will benefit both parties: Gamesplanet will be providing access to their full digital library of games (including future AAA releases). These codes will be distributed and used to help PCGamingWiki to fulfil one of its main goals: to create and keep articles of fixes for PC games up-to-date. In exchange, PCGamingWiki will be adding Gamesplanet to our Availability table, and doing some cross promotion. To support the endeavour I'd like to encourage PCGamingWiki supporters to add Gamesplanet entries to relevant game pages and help show our appreciation. The new formatting is explained here and is as follows - for example Fallout 4's entry would be: {{Availability/row| Gamesplanet | 2838-1 | Steam | | | Windows }} If you are interested in receiving these new review codes for writing up PCGamingWiki articles, please refer to the Assignments forum. We have a very busy November 2015 coming up and no one has made claims for the big AAA games yet, e.g. Fallout 4, Star Wars: Battlefront, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Call of Duty Black Ops 3, etc. Please refer to Assignment Guidelines for more information about how to request review codes.
  10. Ratchet pointed this new website out to me: http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Quite an ambitious project that looks very interesting. They have account creation disabled, you have to request for a new account. However it looks like they are hosting copyrighted content, probably not a good idea for the long term!
  11. The only real issue with RecentChanges is that the timestamp is slightly out of line with the right-hand text which is a line-height issue, it could be increased slightly. The new way that MediaWiki displays and groups RecentChanges means that 50 entries looks quite small. We could try defaulting it to 100 or 250, e.g. http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Special:RecentChanges/250
  12. Fantastic work on the new skin, it really really great! The biggest change is the well-executed mobile/tablet responsiveness which has always been an issue and had begun to affect search engine visibility of the site as well.
  13. I'm very happy with the way the new skin looks. I'm not sure I'd describe what you've written as 'major' issues. IMO the compressed text spacing is better than the one with too much padding.
  14. Currently in talks to have this done by CheapShark owner, we'll see how this turns out in the next few months.
  15. I promise it'll be subtle just like how the 'JuxtaposeJS' link is now which is only 86x16.
  16. Putting this out to tender now with these additional features: Description PCGamingWiki would like to adapt and host a forked modified version of JuxtaposeJS - a system for making before/after image sliders. The source is hosted on github. We are looking for a talented Javascript developer to help add additional features to the slider system including: - responsive iframe embeds Embeds should resize gracefully down to appropriate size for responsive smartphone/tablet widths. - view comparisons in fullscreen via uid link For example for this embed: https://jsfiddle.net/7ubktc88/ there is this source link: https://cdn.knightlab.com/libs/juxtapose/latest/embed/index.html?uid=69199ef8-3f56-11e5-86aa-0e7075bba956 If you view that source link fullscreen it doesn't work correctly as the browser window constraints are not correct - images overlap too much or too little. We would like to be able to share a uid link and get to show the user a fullscreen slider comparison experience that works. - hosted/branded on PCGamingWiki servers I'd like to host this on our account/server at an address such as http://compare.pcgamingwiki.com In the bottom-left of the slider I'd like it to say 'PCGamingWiki' and link to our slider builder. In the bottom-right of the slider I'd like there to be a link to the fullscreen uid view in another tab. - (nice to have) scaling with scrollbars Be able to increase the size of the sliders by x1.5, x2, x3, x4 so our users can be more detail. Contact Please get in contact with Andytizer if you are interested - there will be monetary compensation.
  17. We do scaling in many of our reports anyway, some people like to see zoom and crop of specific settings, even if it means stretching beyond 1:1.
  18. If anyone knows a spare web/Python developer let me know!
  19. Enjoying this objective team based online FPS game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/333930/ - I encourage more people to give it a try. I remember seeing this at a presentation by Splash Damage at the first Rezzed back in 2012, and I was very sceptical. However I'm enjoying the game quite a lot. It's similar to TF2 but with more dynamic objectives, slightly futuristic weapons, faster pace, etc. Decent variety of maps, classes aka 'Mercs'. Only real bugbear is that there are only a handful of Mercs on rotation at any one time (I believe this system is similar to LoL?) which means that counters to certain classes aren't always available (or you need to purchase the appropriate Merc through in-game currency or real money). Anyone else given this a shot?
  20. It would be great to be able to adjust the scale of the image - e.g. introducing scrollbars at x1.5 x2 x3 x4 etc. I'm sure this is possible to do by modifying JuxtaposeJS. Just need to find someone who can take this project on.. all the source code is on GitHub: https://github.com/NUKnightLab/juxtapose
  21. JuxtaposeJS wishlist: - responsive iframe embedding - fullscreen view of the uid - lower right corner linking to PCGamingWiki - rebrand to PCGamingWiki for anytone to create their own fullscreen/embeddable comparison slider, e.g. compare.pcgamingwiki.com - additional line of text for more detail
  22. This is something I'd love to do. I was researching this and someone has actually created something that works quite well called JuxtaposeJS: https://juxtapose.knightlab.com/ It's on GitHub so theoretically we could fork and brand as PCGamingWiki too. These could be embedded as iframes and then used on the Blog and also possibly on the Wiki too if there's demand for it. Here's how it in action: https://jsfiddle.net/7ubktc88/ I imagine it wouldn't be too much work to adapt this to fit out needs, but I simply don't have the time at the moment.
  23. The next version of IP Board is out and it's responsive and looks pretty good. I believe we'll be doing this later in the year to upgrade from IPB 3 to IPB 4. The 'Single sign on' system we have now is very hackish so I'm thinking about disconnecting the wiki and IP Board accounts, although this has its own set of issues.
  24. There's a large percentage of people who just want to see a big long list of what PCGamingWiki covers.
