This is a great idea. Notes about VirtualStore redirection are now displayed for Windows paths pointing to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, %WINDIR%, and <path-to-game>. Feel free to suggest any improvements to the wording or other path types that need notes.

    Version 20190708

    34 downloads

Unpack the archive with software like 7zip, then patch the main game exe with the tool. This will remove the letterboxing (black bars) from the game, resulting in more vertical FOV than ever before. There will be some vertical stretching of the menu and subtitles. Support with a donation.

    MobyGames

In the area under the game cover art there are links to Wikipedia, SteamDB, Wine... and other stuff. I recommend to add MobyGames there too, since Wikipedia is a general online encyclopedia and MobyGame is basically an online encyclopedia for video games and people often already add the links to it in the general info section. Many old obscure and less known games don't have a Wikipedia page, but I have yet to find an old game without a MobyGames page.

It's nothing personal. It's just business. Why are people getting worked up over which store a game initially appears in? We need some strong competition to the Steam store, and Epic is finally providing it.

Proposal: Restructure articles with 'Overview' to replace Key Points, Essential Improvements, General Information Key points was designed to be a way to add statements that would be quantitatively verifiable and individually moderated easily. It occupies the top of the article and is the first thing visitors read when viewing an article - it implies that this is the headline top information. However it currently suffers from an issue where people fill out lines for the sake of having a line, and includes information that is far from ‘key’ eg {{++}} Game uses 7.1 audio. Or to include {{--}} negative points just to 'balance' out the top of the article, where it is not warranted. Secondly I would like to push PCGW to contain more Wikipedia-like information that is qualitative, with a focus on technical and quality of life information. Back in 2012, I was afraid we wouldn’t have the policies and manpower to correctly moderate large blocks of text. However I think we are in a good position to do this now with a healthy active moderation team. This would also vastly improve its 'SEO' quality and push PCGamingWiki articles from average slot of 11th space on Google to possibly the front page. This will attract visitors and editors and make the entire site more useful. Here's a draft General section example (no 2nd level header), that would go at the top of the page: General information - instead of a long rambling list of everything, we move this under the Infobox. Rename to "Support Resources". Remove things like wikis, official websites - this section should be for things like 'authoritative threads', forums, etc. where users can expect to find answers to technical questions about the game.

    Version v1.1

    167,873 downloads

This fixes the following issues with Gothic and Gothic II on Windows 8 and later: Window border visible in fullscreen mode Low frame rate in fullscreen mode Extract anywhere and run install.bat to apply these fixes. Any previous versions are automatically replaced if present. This works by applying the following compatibility fixes to Gothic.exe, Gothic2.exe and GothicMod.exe: ForceSimpleWindow (hides window border) DXPrimaryEmulation -DisableMaxWindowedMode (fixes frame rate isssues) This fix does not remove Gothic's default frame rate cap; refer to its page for a separate fix for that issue. This fix will also work with Gothic Multiplayer (other mods that change the executable might not be affected).

Download the archive, unpack it with 7zip or similar software, then point the patcher matching your aspect ratio at \TSCGame\Binaries\Win64\TSCGame-Win64-Shipping.exe within the game folder. This will match the FOV to the default 16:9 vertical value and remove the pillarboxing from the dialogue scenes. Tested at 2560x1080, 3440x1440, 3840x1080 and 5760x1080.

I would say it is competition. What is stopping Valve from throwing even more money at developers to keep them from jumping ship to the Epic Store?
  11. 1 point
From what we can gather based on the few tidbits here and there, Epic basically guarantees a number of sold units, as in regardless of whether the title actually sells a number of paid copies or not developers will still be paid as if they did. This is good for developers if e.g. Epic guarantees 500 000 copies sold, as that means devs will be paid as if 500 000 copies were sold even in cases where they might not have sold as many copies. Source: https://www.thegamer.com/epic-store-2-million-sales-exchange-exclusivity/ That developers and/or publishers enters an agreement with Epic isn't weird when faced with the alternative. It's basically a guaranteed income for a timed (non-Steam) exclusive window vs. an uncertain income for that same period of time. Sure, some titles might've seen the same sorts of income on the Steam platform, or even higher, but the flood of titles releasing on Steam every day makes it much harder to differentiate oneself from the competition and reach the possible audience. While I don't like Epic's platform, nor this way of garnering timed exclusives to build an audience and platform, I can at least see the value of it from the perspective of publishers or developers. It is therefor understandable why many titles choose to go timed exclusive on Epic when faced with the choice. At the end of the day game development is a business first and foremost from the perspective of corporate game studios.

And therein lies the crux of the problem. people who "don't like it" as you put it got bait and switched into an EGS release effectively taking the choice they were promised out of their hands. No wonder they are pissed, i would be. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I imagined this would be dead-on-arrival and that GOG would have to, on their own, implement support for running the various install commands of other platforms. But that they're actually "in talks" might suggest we might see some more complex integration than simply querying the web APIs of the platforms and executing the relevant protocol URI.

This have been on the backburner for a while. I usually just tell users to use /row/developer with an appropriate second parameter instead: {{Infobox game/row/developer|My Famous Game Studio|Microsoft Store}} The porter row is currently tied to what PCGW sees as OSes, and trying to fit in /platform “ports”/ on that row is probably going to be a headache. It also isn’t as relevant information since the work done is typically far less minor (usually just involves replacing one library for another, or hooking up calls to replacement calls, etc). I recommend we simply formalize the use of the developer row in the few cases where another studio worked on one of the platform releases.

    MobyGames

MobyGames have declined my proposal of mutual linking - not citing any reasons. I don't really see much value in linking to them, they don't really provide any useful information for PC gamers - Wikipedia has much more useful information. I would prefer to dedicate resources to more compatible websites, e.g. I was looking at ProtonDB.

    Outer Wilds resolutions unlocker

Thank you Rose! It worked perfectly. Really appreciate you creating this and making it available to the community! Edit: I should add that I'm using it for 3440x1440 and there's not screen cutoff that I can tell. Everything appears to be scaled perfectly.

    E3 2019 Megathread

Microsoft is running the MixPot promotion again: watch the Xbox E3 stream on Mixer (from the Mixer Xbox channel or through the app) and sign in with a Microsoft account to get free games/DLC. See the Xbox MixPot FAQ for details. Last time it was only games/DLC for consoles, but since they will be talking about the PC this time there might be some PC goodies.

The Music Volume mod doesn't work if you use the JP VO as is. To make it work, you hafta edit the .bat file and remove all mentions of "/usa". Big copypasta derp right there 😛

    Borderlands Configuration Editor

This particular software seems to be picked up by antivirus software for some reason. An alternative 'Borderlands Advance Settings' on this github may be a better alternative, as it has been updated more recently.

If we are to track the Early Access date of a game, I'd also include a third date in those cases where the developers actively cancel an Early Access game. For example, the developers of a game I purchased in Steam Early Access, The Kindred, announced on 20 January 2018 they were pulling the game from Early Access and purchase as they could no longer develop the game nor easily find an interested developer to continue development.

Back in year 2006, had to come up with nickname for IRC-Galleria, hip popular finnish image site, similar how facebook is now and I'm still being teased when I made note "first day on IRC" as I didn't use actual IRC for years after that statement. Super Mario combined with birthyear = Mario92. Also IRL name and that both start with M, so it felt natural for some reason. As started to use more of the amazing internet and even got one at home with SUPA FAST 2G trough Nokia 6151, that nickname seemed like it was in use in some places as it's quite generic. Solution was finnish slang. So now I mostly use: - Marioysikax, Mario, ysi = 9, kax = 2. - Mairo, Pronounced as "My Ro" as it quicky became a nickname of the original nickname when used VoIP in games and such. For some reason when people read the name, they misspell it as "Mario" when referring to me. Usually not being foilhat, so I do use IRL name in many places. That names origin should be obvious thing :p Also seeing some pattern here, most common reason seems to be "needed nickname, combined stuff".
