    This is a great idea. Notes about VirtualStore redirection are now displayed for Windows paths pointing to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, %WINDIR%, and <path-to-game>. Feel free to suggest any improvements to the wording or other path types that need notes.

    In the area under the game cover art there are links to Wikipedia, SteamDB, Wine... and other stuff. I recommend to add MobyGames there too, since Wikipedia is a general online encyclopedia and MobyGame is basically an online encyclopedia for video games and people often already add the links to it in the general info section. Many old obscure and less known games don't have a Wikipedia page, but I have yet to find an old game without a MobyGames page.

    Epic isn't only paying for exclusivity, they are also taking a smaller share of revenue from game sales. Epic is providing a more lucrative store for developers. If Valve has an issue with this, they can adapt Epic's policies for the Steam store. Valve could pay off developers and publishers to not release games on the Epic Games Store, yet they have chosen not to compete in that regard.

    It's nothing personal. It's just business. Why are people getting worked up over which store a game initially appears in? We need some strong competition to the Steam store, and Epic is finally providing it.

    Proposal: Restructure articles with 'Overview' to replace Key Points, Essential Improvements, General Information Key points was designed to be a way to add statements that would be quantitatively verifiable and individually moderated easily. It occupies the top of the article and is the first thing visitors read when viewing an article - it implies that this is the headline top information. However it currently suffers from an issue where people fill out lines for the sake of having a line, and includes information that is far from ‘key’ eg {{++}} Game uses 7.1 audio. Or to include {{--}} negative points just to 'balance' out the top of the article, where it is not warranted. Secondly I would like to push PCGW to contain more Wikipedia-like information that is qualitative, with a focus on technical and quality of life information. Back in 2012, I was afraid we wouldn’t have the policies and manpower to correctly moderate large blocks of text. However I think we are in a good position to do this now with a healthy active moderation team. This would also vastly improve its 'SEO' quality and push PCGamingWiki articles from average slot of 11th space on Google to possibly the front page. This will attract visitors and editors and make the entire site more useful. Here's a draft General section example (no 2nd level header), that would go at the top of the page: General information - instead of a long rambling list of everything, we move this under the Infobox. Rename to "Support Resources". Remove things like wikis, official websites - this section should be for things like 'authoritative threads', forums, etc. where users can expect to find answers to technical questions about the game.

Any previous versions are automatically replaced if present. This works by applying the following compatibility fixes to Gothic.exe, Gothic2.exe and GothicMod.exe: ForceSimpleWindow (hides window border) DXPrimaryEmulation -DisableMaxWindowedMode (fixes frame rate isssues) This fix does not remove Gothic's default frame rate cap; refer to its page for a separate fix for that issue. This fix will also work with Gothic Multiplayer (other mods that change the executable might not be affected).

    From what we can gather based on the few tidbits here and there, Epic basically guarantees a number of sold units, as in regardless of whether the title actually sells a number of paid copies or not developers will still be paid as if they did. This is good for developers if e.g. Epic guarantees 500 000 copies sold, as that means devs will be paid as if 500 000 copies were sold even in cases where they might not have sold as many copies. It's basically a guaranteed income for a timed (non-Steam) exclusive window vs. an uncertain income for that same period of time. Sure, some titles might've seen the same sorts of income on the Steam platform, or even higher, but the flood of titles releasing on Steam every day makes it much harder to differentiate oneself from the competition and reach the possible audience. While I don't like Epic's platform, nor this way of garnering timed exclusives to build an audience and platform, I can at least see the value of it from the perspective of publishers or developers. It is therefor understandable why many titles choose to go timed exclusive on Epic when faced with the choice. At the end of the day game development is a business first and foremost from the perspective of corporate game studios.

    And therein lies the crux of the problem. people who "don't like it" as you put it got bait and switched into an EGS release effectively taking the choice they were promised out of their hands. No wonder they are pissed, i would be. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We are looking for someone to help post news regularly and manage our social media channels. This is a paid temporary part-time position.     This have been on the backburner for a while. I usually just tell users to use /row/developer with an appropriate second parameter instead: {{Infobox game/row/developer|My Famous Game Studio|Microsoft Store}} The porter row is currently tied to what PCGW sees as OSes, and trying to fit in /platform “ports”/ on that row is probably going to be a headache. It also isn’t as relevant information since the work done is typically far less minor (usually just involves replacing one library for another, or hooking up calls to replacement calls, etc). I recommend we simply formalize the use of the developer row in the few cases where another studio worked on one of the platform releases.

    E3 2019 Megathread

    Microsoft is running the MixPot promotion again: watch the Xbox E3 stream on Mixer (from the Mixer Xbox channel or through the app) and sign in with a Microsoft account to get free games/DLC. See the Xbox MixPot FAQ for details. Last time it was only games/DLC for consoles, but since they will be talking about the PC this time there might be some PC goodies.

    I'm against adding Metacritic or Opencritic scores because the vast majority of outlets issue the same score for all platforms (prominent when the 100-point scale is used), presumably not comparing the platforms extensively, or not much at all. The PC platform universally has lower amount of scores than the console platforms which have roughly 100 ratings for major releases — the Metacritic average also tends to be lower despite objective technical advantages. More significant issue is that practically every publication listed on Metacritic ignores the technical aspect: 30fps lock, locked resolution, mouse acceleration, key-rebinding, available configuration options (if any), gamepad-friendly HUD, mismatched X and Y sensitivity are so rarely mentioned that I might as well say that they never are. I skimmed through every English review for Alice: Madness Returns (when online, some pages haven't been archived by archive.org) and the game's 30-fps lock was never noted.

    This particular software seems to be picked up by antivirus software for some reason. An alternative 'Borderlands Advance Settings' on this github may be a better alternative, as it has been updated more recently.

    If we are to track the Early Access date of a game, I'd also include a third date in those cases where the developers actively cancel an Early Access game. For example, the developers of a game I purchased in Steam Early Access, The Kindred, announced on 20 January 2018 they were pulling the game from Early Access and purchase as they could no longer develop the game nor easily find an interested developer to continue development.

    What is this? This fix lets you change the FOV of the singleplayer campaign, including the size of the weapon model. It is simple to install and use and comes with a GUI for easy configuration. Overview Description Despite being a decent PC version, the singleplayer of Modern Warfare Remastered lacks the option to set the FOV. Even though the default FOV is not as horrible as in other Call of Duty games, it still makes the campaign unpleasant or outright unplayable for some people. This fix aims to fix this issue by providing an easy and convenient way to set the FOV for the game. Features Option to set the vertical FOV to almost arbitrary values Option to set the FOV scale of the weapon model Simple to install and use Easy to configure via a GUI and ingame bindings Important: This fix is specifically designed for the singleplayer campaign and will not work with the multiplayer version Instructions Supported Versions Steam Important: This fix relies on the layout of the executable. Although it uses techniques to make it more robust to modifications of the game, it might have to be updated when the game is patched Install The fix does not make any permanent changes to the system, the game or the configuration of the game and can easily be removed (see below). Extract the XInput1_3.dll and the MWRSPFovFixGUI.exe files to the main folder of the game. For example "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered\" Start the MWRSPFovFixGUI.exe to configure the fix as desired Start the game like you would normally, for example directly through Steam or Big Picture mode A few additional notes on the installation: You should hear a FOV Fix loaded message on game launch when the fix was loaded. This sound can be turned off in the config The GUI requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable package; both of which should already be installed on most systems. If you are having problems starting the program, you can download the required versions here and here Uninstall Remove the XInput1_3.dll from the game's main folder. Configuration To configure the fix you can use the GUI application. Remember that you can hover over almost any option with the mouse to get an explanatory tooltip. There are two FOV settings. The vertical FOV Base and the FOV Weapon Scale factor. The effective FOV is calculated by multiplying these two values. The scaling factor also affects the way the weapon is displayed in addition to the camera. By default the game uses a base FOV of 65.0 and a weapon scaling of 1.0. For a 16:9 27 inch display I am using a FOV Base of 66.0 and a FOV Weapon Scale of 1.15. Note that the settings can also be adjusted while in the game by using the corresponding keybindings. Additional Information What You Should Know Since the fix consists of an executable DLL-File, I could have put any harmful shenanigans in there. You just have to trust me that the file is clean. If you don't -- and why should you -- feel free to use a meta online virus scanner like VirusTotal to verify the file. Be aware however, that because the fix uses "hacking techniques" such as injection and hooking, it could trigger anti-virus software without being harmful.     Microsoft DirectInput Mapper needed on Windows Vista and newer for some older games that show a DirectInput registry error or fail to remember key/button mappings. This download contains the following DLL files: Microsoft DirectInput Mapper (dimap.dll) Microsoft DirectInput Mapper Framework (diactfrm.dll) Extract somewhere temporarily and run the install batch file as an admin (right click, Run as administrator). These DLL files were extracted from a genuine Windows XP installation CD.
