    Taxonomy is a waste of time

    Actually having a 'Cinematic camera perspective' is quite a valuable piece of information - it tells you that the player has no control over the camera. Some players may prefer games with fixed camera angles, some cannot stand them. I don't think adding genre, camera perspectives etc can in any way hurt the 'fix PC games' project of ours, it can only help. I've always maintained that the addition of additional information is always going to be helpful for lots of reasons - for rich, descriptive lists of games that no one else has. Like 'Singleplayer games with microtransactions' or 'Adventure games that support controller' or 'Horror games that support LAN'. Additionally, taxonomy will have benefits for our SEO and lays the foundation for a new 'Introduction' section I'm going to be working on next. I respect that you feel it's a waste of time, however it's something we are going ahead it and I reserve the right to waste my own time 🙂. I would suggest turning off your watchlist for the next few weeks because there are going to be a lot of changes to every single article, taxonomy is just the beginning.

    It says on the home page "PCGamingWiki aims to list fixes and workarounds for every single PC game." How is writing that Escape From Monkey Island uses "cinematic camera perspective" help anyone ? In my opinion everything not related to getting the games fixed or improved is a waste of people's time and spreads the project and community thin. Even if it is done with a bot it just makes it harder to keep track of all the constant changes on your watchlist. This site is slowly creeping into Moby Games territory adding stuff like this, the ratings or whatever comes next.

    Thank you very much. It worked perfectly! I have a 3 monitors setup and fov was so bad that I was playing on 1920x1080. Now it`s on 5760x1080 with no issues.

    RDR2 Centered HUD

    Thank you Rose. I found an easier and more reliable way to do this trick. You have to go to your "\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings" folder. There, you'll see several files with .bin extension. One of these files contains the horizontal HUD location. Mine was named "400042567_19054853.bin". I don't know if the name may vary from computer to another. All of these files are in fact xml files and easy to edit with any notepad. I found the following key to contain the horizontal HUD location. <Item key="7014661855" type="rage__fwuiValueFloat"> <value value="0.328000" /> </Item> All you have to do is to modify the value to whatever you desire then set this file to be read only. Last step is important because it prevents the game from modifying this value. Once this value is modified never go back in game to the HUD location setting or it may reset the value in memory and it will revert the HUD location. This works really well for me.

    The game features FMVs and rendered cutscenes that get pillarboxed at 21:9 and wider resolutions. This patcher removes the black bars from the rendered cutscenes and has no effect on the FMVs as there is no way to hack a pre-recorded video to add more content.     New footage of Unreal Engine 5 has been released running real-time on PlayStation 5 in a demo called Lumen in the Land of Nanite.     Yes that's right, that Grand Theft Auto V game is now completely free on Epic Games Store, however you might have a little trouble grabbing it as the website is experiencing 'difficulties' probably due to the overwhelming popularity of the game.     Proposal: Achievements support

    I would like to propose that the existence of achievements for a game be somehow catalogued. It can vary by platform like when Steam has achievements but Origin or Xbox does not. I think PCGamingWiki is the most suitable source for cataloguing this information.

    Pretty much what Mirh said. When I was a wee bit newbie just starting out with PCGW editing I also brought it up and was subsequently outvoted. But nowadays I would actually argue to leave it alone over moving it. It is often mentioned as one of the key enjoyments of PCGW, meaning it should be featured more prominently than stuffed away in a rarely seen section. As Mirh mentioned it is also for many games the one fix/improvement we provided. And another, for me critical, reason to retain it as is is that it also serves a triple-purpose in basically: provides a basic and understandable introduction to the sort of stuff we might cover for new visitors; are one of the easiest ways for users to follow and implement on their own; are also one of the easier ways for new contributors to “dip their toes” into the world of wiki editing. All around, while the subject matter itself might not be very “essential,” the section itself very much is IMHO.

    This mod is based on the code used in 21xMachi9 (https://github.com/KingKrouch/21xMachi9), but only modifies the Vert- FOV in Destroy All Humans. It also supports custom FOVs by modifying the config.ini file. I have plans on releasing an open sourced version once the game releases, but I figured that I'd release a seperate version of this fix soley for the demo version, as it likely won't need to be updated as often. Installation: Extract the contents of "DestroyAllVertMinus_Release_Win64.zip" into the "Destroy All Humans Demo\DH\Binaries\Win64" directory where the game is installed. NOTE: This fix requires Visual C++ Redist 2015-2019 to be installed to function properly, as this release build uses the most recent Windows SDK versions as of Visual Studio 2019.     I'm not sure you know what you are talking about. The specular lighting model in the RE engine is based on material properities, which is a physically based lighting model. (Of course some of it exaggerated to attain a certain look intentionally. FWIW even in real life cinema, the lighting is not at all true to real life. Everything is lit a certain way to achieve a certain look. Either in filming or post.) And in real life you can have a lot of objects have the same kind of shiny finish. It all depends on how it's made. (Matte vs Satin vs Gloss). What you propose would actually have to change the entire lighting model of the engine to ignore material properties and light everything differently than how it was designed. Not a simple modification. RE7 in particular is the earliest version of this engine and so the lighting model is not as refined, but quite literally it takes place mostly in a wet, humid and damp environment where water would be a regular problem. Hence a lot of the outdoor areas are wet looking. Inside, some types of wood look more glossy but that's because the lighting material is based on a high gloss wood finish.(Though that doesn't apply to all wood. Different wood is lit differently). RE2 features rain prominently so there is also a lot of wetness in those areas and the character models actually transition from a wet to dry state based on the environment.

    I really was upset with the map being compressed while playing ultrawide 3 displays. The only way to get rid of this bug was to set the game windowed borderless. It's still not perfect as the map is spaned all across my 3 displays but better with actual behavior. But while doing this, the HUD (minimap, Texts, ammo) were left and right sided. Player can still modify the HUD location but it would still be bounded to 90% of the viewport. So i wrote this cheat table to overwrite the bounded locations. This script is not perfect. First, you have to set in your game settings the horizontal area in game to 90% and vertical one to 100%. Then, edit the script and modify the following code : Change the value after (float) to whatever you like between 0 and 0.95 (0 should give weird behaviors). While in game, activate the script and then go to settings as if you were to change your horizontal HUD position in game. You'll probably see non correct values but don't worry about that. Apply changes and go back in game. Your HUD should be centered correctly now.

    Flawless Widescreen plugin for fixing wrong aspect ratio in 32:9 and Surround/Eyefinity resolutions. This is an update for the DOOM(2016) Fix made by Hayden, which is part of FWS. (The existing plugin stopped working, so I had to redo this from scratch, after the game got updated...last year?!). - Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Flawless Widescreen\" and unpack the content of this archive. (If it asks about overwriting some folders, accept - it will add new files and not overwrite any existing ones.) - Start FWS and select the plugin (under Helifax section). - Enable the plugin. - Play the game. Known Issues: Has been tested only with Vulkan API. OpenGL version might not work. Some UI will still be stretched - I didn't bother to fix it... sorry! Cheers, Helifax

    Taxonomy gives a wealth of detail in very few words. The theme, controls, and stuff, matter a lot whether I'll enjoy a game. Simple notes go a long way. For instance I appreciate knowing when extras (soundtracks, wallpapers, etc) are included that aren't already clarified in the usual places like the game's store page or boxart.

    I actually think this is a solid idea. I would take this a step further and use this to point out if the EXE is in a subfolder as well (example: {{P|game}}\Binaries\Danielle\x64\Release\Prey.exe) Normally I would also say that Installation Folder isn't all that helpful, but there are some edge cases that are... unreasonable. Most notably, you may have trouble finding Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 in your Steamapps\common folder. That's because it's called Suzy. I could see it being standard practice to have an {{ii}} under game data if the folder has a strange name such as this, or note that every game in a collection has its own data stored in a dedicated subfolder. It would probably be best as a table in #Game_data as @SirYodaJedi suggested, with Mac/Linux file names directly below the Windows EXE.

    The Steam pages for Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human have just popped up and it appears that the demos for the games do not contain Denuvo Anti-Tamper. The demos lack the telltale signs of Denuvo, including enlarged file sizes and certain strings contained within the exe. This is unlike the versions of the game that exist on the Epic Games Store, which contain Denuvo in the main release exe as well as the demo files. This is despite the fact that the game 'Requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA', which contains numerous mentions that the product 'may be protected' using Denuvo Anti-Tamper: It remains to be seen whether the main releases will contain Denuvo. A release date for Heavy Rain has not been confirmed, but we would expect that it would release on Steam on June 24, 2020, exactly a year from its initial release on Epic Games Store.     Overhaul of the editing guide?

    After extensive discussion, I think we're close to finalize the details of how we would cover it best. The way I see right now is a multi-parameter approach like the DualShock 4 parameters under input, where we both track support (native, hackable, etc) separately from the mode supported itself (DirectSound3D, Windows Spatial, etc). Inputting e.g. "EAX" into the mode field would interpret it as DirectSound3D and show it as such.

    Marty Stratton, executive producer of Doom Eternal, has announced that Denuvo Anti-Cheat (not to be confused with Denuvo Anti-Tamper) will be removed from Doom Eternal in Update 1.1 which will be "rolled-out to players within a week". This follow the recent patch which implemented Denuvo Anti-Cheat in Doom Eternal faced backlash last Thursday. The developers will consider "giving campaign-only players the ability to play without anti-cheat software installed": The initial reason id Software implemented anti-cheat in the first place is clarified: The main announcement can be seen here on the /r/Doom subreddit: It remains remains to be seen whether id Software's decision to remove Denuvo Anti-Cheat again in Doom Eternal is permanent.

    An announcement has been made that alongside the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection release on June 5, 2020, the source for for TiberianDawn.dll and RedAlert.dll will be released under the GPL version 3.0 license. The full announcement has been made by EA Producer Jim Vesella on /r/commandandconquer. EA will also be releasing a new Map Editor, which will allow users to design and create maps, units, replace art, etc. and have even created a new custom unit the 'Nuke Tank' screenshotted above. Furthermore, Steam Workshop will be added for sharing maps and mods. Full announcement:

    I just want to say that I completely agree with the OP. I wouldn't necessarily pick on perspectives, modes and controls (even though that's information that's usually alread covered in each page), but info like genre, art styles, themes and ratings are pretty useless. Most people come here to learn how to fix a problem they have with a game they already own. All of this is noise that makes what was meant to be simple only more convoluted. Same for the hundreds of wiki entries dumped at the top of each page. It's not technical info. It's usually story or lore info, something outside the scope of this wiki. Just my 2 cents...

    An hour later and I've finally, hopefully, mostly, finished consolidated the information and replaced the Editing Guide sections on the infobox game and infobox non-game with their underlying respective documentations. Casualty of war was details pertaining to Infobox game/row/date as that is just too much to properly showcase in the table in either docs, and so details are now placed on its own documentation instead. Note to future self on this particular subject: Replace infobox non-game with infobox software entirely? Infobox controller, company, and console needs to be updated to the same documentation format. Move Cover section further up the editing guide page? Evaluate need to move to per-template docs for the rest of the rows such as Infobox game/row/engine, Infobox game/row/developer, etc. Pro: Everything standardized using what is arguably MediaWiki basics. Makes it easier to expand each template docs as deemed necessary. Con: Nothing easily consolidated in one place -- new editors would have to visit multiple subpages to properly get all the gists of the templates.

    I have renamed Video, Input, and Audio and updated the documentation etc. where applicable. Existing links to the old section names within and between pages will continue working normally. I have not changed VR support at this time; it is probably due for an overhaul anyway to clear up/split stereoscopic 3D vs actual VR headsets (but that's a separate topic). Note that I have not renamed the Cargo tables at this time because there are some other things to change or finalise there as well such as the CD audio row. Cargo table naming doesn't have to match the actual template name and is mostly invisible, so this isn't a big deal. Using the term without any additional words brings it into line with other sections like Availability and Network (with VR support being the exception as I mentioned above). "Features" would also not be the most applicable term for some of the rows (e.g. "touchscreen optimized"). Video settings is almost too long already, so it would make more sense to introduce an additional table for less universal features rather than bloating the main one. Some time ago I made a working example of this. This is definitely something to revisit (in a separate topic), particularly with things like ray tracing becoming more common in the near future.

    On a sidenote: Is it really necessary for the "series" table to be replaced by the taxonomy link? Not only does it give a quick overview but also allows one to jump quickly between the titles. Now I have to visit another page - which also doesn't offer much more valuable information. I think this would be one case where a duplicate information is acceptable. And if it's about the number of titles for some series becoming longer and longer, maybe just make the table collapsible and only show a handful until someone clicks "expand" or something.

    I mean, I see some value in this information, but as it looks now I spend more time on the infobox than the whole rest of a page. Looking at the Taxonomy page and this huge list of variables is kinda overwhelming and confusing. Especially when a game can have multiple categories in a single section (I do wonder what the final infobox for a GTA game will look like with all its gameplay systems and different vehicles for example). Then there is the link to the Taxonomy page as it must correspond with that but when visiting it all I see under "Instructions" is a changelog where I somehow have to piece the information I need together myself on this huge and unwieldy page. Same applies to the Monetization section https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/PCGamingWiki:Editing_guide/Downloadable_content_(DLC)_and_expansions Again: No examples, have to jump to different pages for all the info, the "Please refer to Monetization article" link leads nowhere and again that link to the Taxonomy main page which isn't helpful at all. What I'm trying to say is: If that taxonomy stuff isn't ready or properly presentable yet, it shouldn't be part of the editing guidelines.

    “Essential” as a word is fine IMHO, and attempting to separate it into two is just going to cause more confusion. For patches, only the latest patch is usually the one being included, and it is essential because updating a game to the latest version /is/ essential. It doesn’t matter what the patch itself includes, just that information on how to update an outdated copy is available. Our articles are also meant to reflect the latest patches alone, and so outdated fixes are removed from the article when a patch have fixed them. So to actually read the article properly, an updated copy is essential. For mods, the inclusion of “non-essential” mods are already an issue and one that is solved by editors simply moving the sections to another more appropriate section. “Essential” here is a good adjective to use as it is clearer than something like “recommended”. I don’t recommend splitting it up because “Recommended” is then going to validate the inclusion of nonsense mods at the top of the article that does not belong there. For improved widescreen support and such, see Video section. For other subjectively recommended mods, see Other informations, etc. Adding a recommended section is just going to increase the data on top, not decrease it which seems to be the underlying intention with this proposal. An acceptable workaround for skip intros specifically that I can imagine might be doable is to move the larger such sections that includes more than one alternative down to “Other information“ while retaining a link to said section in the “Essential improvements” section. This would solve huge sections while still allowing new users and regular users to easily identify whether such an option is available or not regardless of whether multiple alternatives are available or not.

    Discussions on forums/reddit/etc. invariably mention skipping intro videos as one of the great things about the wiki, so I'd be hesitant to demote it so significantly, especially now that the table of contents is collapsed by default--the average visitor might think there isn't a fix at all. As @Antrad mentioned above, the best approach might be to change "essential" to something else for this. One solution would be to have "essential improvements" only for fixes that are absolutely crucial (e.g. the game won't work correctly without this fix) and then just below that have "recommended improvements" (or something) for fixes that are nice to have but not crucial to the experience (add widescreen support, skip intros, and anything else you probably want but don't need). This would separate things nicely without pushing popular fixes down the page, and a lot of pages already have the most crucial fixes first.

    Every feature is still working on my end on the same build. I tested it right after the update a few days ago and then again today. Make sure you have the latest version of the tool downloaded from here and that your anti-virus settings are not getting in the way.

    I don't really have a hard opinion, but last time I checked this was the thing most people were more happily commenting about. Also, arguably, for many many games it's the only actual fix we offer. If any I have always been a supporter of "not having dozens of useless alternatives". For example, a command line parameter is definitively better than deleting videos, if not any at least for steam cache verification purposes. Then I would say you get in order ini editing, file deleting and file replacing (and of course then you have outliers like GTA:SA, but I digress).

    I mocked up a few different possibilities. The first is it added to the Availability section alongside Keys. The second is adding it to the cloud sync section which I've renamed to Platforms features. Last is adding it to the bottom in a new subsection under Other information.

    Another factor is potentially 'in-game' achievements - or achievements that are tracked in-game that don't necessarily sync to a platform. By achievements I specifically mean in-game popups that track progress and not just generic stat tracking. I believe there are several games which have in-game achievements and are patched in later to get Steam achievements etc. I think Achievements might belong in Availability because it behaves a lot like the 'key' column - it shows whether the game syncs achivements to a specific platform, e.g Steam, Uplay, in-game etc. For the gamer who loves achievements, you might want to know which version to buy without having to scroll further down the page.

    I like the idea to add it as a section like cloud saves. It's the two features i always check for before buying a game, and sometimes it's hard to figure it out where achievements are supported with not everyone properly listing it on the store page or having only in game achievements in the gog version of postal 2 for example instead of gog achievements.

Categories [[Games with Steam Achievements]] Adding a new Achievements template to the Other information section. I am keen on the last method. The template could even be written to automatically add the page to certain categories if that functionality were desired.

    Are you kidding me? I edited wiki articles for a long time now without an account, and now I started one to beg you not to do this, and you do this to me? "Our wiki platform has simply grown far too complex and confusing to our staff and editors to use, and our templates are now impossible to understand or even modify" Well, not to say, that your templates are the easiest to understand, but I'd prefer some minor fixes (i.e. I still can't define the correct DRM for some of the games, bc there's no such template for such DRM), rather than giving me a major heart attack. This is worse than when GOG announced they were shutting down! That's it. That's my rage rant. Other than that, thanks for being the most awesome community for PC gamers out there. Just no more heart attacks, please, OK?
