A patch for half-life 2: Update which updates the game to match the one of the original game, it's basically this guide but it only has the necessary files and I adjusted some things.

This works excellently unless you try to run it with -gamepadui, then it breaks. Maybe the game isn't reading the loose files in the materials folder?
