Tony Hawk's American Wasteland - works on laptop, but not on Desktop PC

Hi,

I've just set up my new PC and the first game I wanted to play on it was Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. I was sure it would run, because on my laptop it runs flawlessly. Unfortunately when I run the executable it just shows me an error "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland has stopped working". I installed DirectX 9.0c and still nothing.

Specifications of PC I can't manage to run American Wasteland on:

MSI B85-G43

Intel Core i5 4590

GTX 960

8GB RAM

Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Specifications of my laptop (which runs the game almost perfectly):

HP Probook 6460B

Intel Core i5 2520M

Intel HD Graphics 3000

4GB RAM

Windows 8.1 x64 Pro

Can you help me? I have no idea what's wrong.

Well, assuming there's nothing running in the background that may tamper with the game, the only relevant difference I see here is the graphics card vendor

Also did you patch the game?

EDIT: as side note, I'm starting to think there are too much people with newer nvidia cards that have problems only on those computers to believe that's only a coincidence

Yes, I've installed the latest patch - 1.01.

Out of curiosity I also installed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 on my new PC and it worked! Unfortunately I prefer American Wasteland and I'd love to play that. Both games look similiar, even the launcher looks almost the same, so I really have no idea, what's wrong.

Maybe I should post on that vogons forum?

Oh no, I was only doing my everyday reading of those forums just after I had replied to you....

and the words "god, why the hell the same game produces so inconsistent results between almost equal computers" were rumbling in my head.

So I put your 3 cases next to each other.. I noticed you all have quite new nvidia cards. I don't know now if that's just a simple case.
